Long time Seddit Lurker. I started getting into pickup about a month ago. I'm still very new to this talking to girl thing but I'm trying.

Okay, so like most people, I'm not a fan of canned material. At least not any that I didn't make up myself, so the other night I came up with a couple of my own, test ran them a bit and want some input from Seddit on how they think they would work or how I could make them better.

My first one seems to be the easiest way to start conversation with any set:

Me: "Hey, can I get a female opinion on something" Them: "Sure, go ahead" Me: "Is it gay for to straight guys to hold hands so they won't get lost in a crowd?"

I usually get great responses and often time some of the girls disagree with each other furthering conversation.

The other is a bit more tactical. I had a friend (girl) who is about a 7, but is a really fun girl. She will wing with me when we go out with a group of friends, so I came up with this routine, I approach a group of girls by myself and go with this:

Me: "I need a girls perspective on a problem I have. Can you guys keep a secret" Them: "Yes, what's the problem" Me: "Well, I have this friend that wants to hookup with me, but I don't want her because she's such a good friend to me. How can I let her down easily?" I usually get the question of who my friend is or if she is here, that's when I point out my friend. They give generic advice and at that point my friend comes over with maybe one other person from our group and we start conversation from there.

I was able to number close on one girl out of about five attempts on the first one. And so far zero out of three on the second one.

My friend tells me the problem with the first one is that the girls could think I might be gay, which I don't initially see as a problem.

The other one's problem is that my friend (the 7) isn't as attractive as the girls I'm talking to, thus being a DLV, but I'm not sure.

I'm not too focused on getting numbers right now since just approaching girls is a huge victory for me. Baby steps.

Edit: Thanks for all of your input. I'm definitely going to apply a lot of this advice, especially about coming up with situational openers on the fly.
