Reassure them that your intentions are purely scientific - as you are trying to find a correlation between how attractive a girl is in relation to their favourite dinosaur. Get them qualifying themselves to you.

Just don't use an opener like this with any intention other than having a fun conversation with someone.

When an American chick says that's so random it's her way if expressing disinterest. Plain and simple. You have one option at that point and that is to blow her out and say something like "no it's not". Or "wow you life's pretty interesting then".

Remember. She just shit all over you by saying "ohhhh wooowwwmthat soo random" aka " wow I don't give a shit what you're talking about but I'm trying not to be mean".

Frankly it's probably your delivery. Go up to her and say hey nice shoes wanna fuck and it will work better. Why? Because you have to develop Balls to say that. She respects balls

FYI if you go around using "opinion openers" you might be seen as being a "mystery method" guy. And that might not be good for you.

I'd say only "ask for an opinion" if you really care about her opinion, otherwise just ask her straight up, and use her answer to compare to what your fav dinosaur is, ya know?

In terms of "outer game", these openers and situations really matter on "where you come from" rather than the specifics.
