As a girl, I have to say this

I get that it's difficult if the girl isn't talking much herself, but you must try and stand your ground and make it non-verbally clear to her that you expect her to add 50% to the conservation too. Talking too much in a date setting, even if it's just because the other person talks too little, gives the impression of insecurity. You're trying too hard, you're overly afraid of awkward silence and you've got it in your head that the responsibility is all in you to keep the conversation going. This is why you'll have some people walk away from a date thinking it was good solely because it didn't have any awkward silences, while the other party just thinks you talked too much/seemed nervous. You can come off insecure if you talk too little, but you can most certainly also come off insecure by talking too much. This mistake can be made by girls too and it's one that's hard to break, but it really makes a difference in the power dynamic imo.
