Trying an experiment this week. I'm in my last month of freshman year here, and after hitting a confidence slump at the top of the semester (dropped so many DLVs that I would've dumped me too) I'm determined to break out of the social circle I wrapped around myself a week into college. Time to TALK TO NEW PEOPLE.

The rule I've given myself is that I can't eat lunch unless it's with a stranger.

I tested it out today. First response was an optimistic no, she was headed to a meeting. We had a nice, brief chat about what's going on in the world, and ended with names and smiles. This got me feeling comfortable with approaching straight away.

Second response was an impulse right after the first. "Hey, want to get pizza?" "I'm on my way out, sorry." This was kind of like shooting a gun to hear the sound, not to hit anything.

I found a third girl and said, "You hungry? Let's get pizza." "Oh, I was going to the chinese place." "Great, sounds good to me." She had an awkward "ok" (understandable) so I rooted it by flat-out explaining what I was doing. She got an interesting conversation, I got to eat. Talked about school and her boyfriend on the hockey team. She left promising to watch for me around campus. Enough success for a first day, at least.

I was happy that I could keep a conversation with a stranger alive long enough to eat a meal. I was happy it only took me three tries to find someone to have lunch with, even with such bare and awkward presentation. It made me feel good. I'm not happy with my technique. I'm selling it on fake confidence and a "hey, I'm trying something weird, wanna help?" I want to move up to more subtle game where getting lunch seems natural, where I don't have to say "help, I'll go hungry if you don't do this."

I'm getting comfortable talking to girls from out of nowhere while they're walking around campus. I'm acting like I'm the 10, watching for IOIs, and experimenting with building basic attraction. This is more self-improvement than seduction in that I'm not even trying for a close, but getting lunch is enough of a reward for me. It's easy to find an abundance mentality, too, when you can look around after a rejection and see lines of beautiful women coming your way.

Looking for any feedback and thoughts. Help me stay fed.

Edit: Day 2 Tricky today. I didn't eat til like 4...not a good hour. Plus, it's the weekend and I was on campus. I couldn't get anybody til I settled for a dude, man am I glad I did. He was a super shy guy so it was awesome being able to open him up in conversation. It turned out we had bought the same food, and our names are one letter off. Instant conversation fuel. Went into his hobbies...I never thought knowing what "wavedashing" was would help me make a friend. I explained what I was doing and he said something that assured me I was doing the right thing: "Maybe I could use something like that." Shit, I'm not doing this for myself anymore. I'm providing a service by letting my awesomeness infect other people.

I'm shocked at how much this is changing me. I'm talking to everyone and getting positive reactions. I ran into a girl waiting alone outside my dorm and ended up getting her number. "I have a boyfriend!" "Please, you're a senior. How many weeks are left in the semester? You think I'm looking for a relationship?" Boom. I'm valuing hot friends as much as hot partners. I ran into another girl while I was picking berries off of a tree, "Did you know these are edible? Just learned that today." Curiosity led to a unique shared experience and a great time between us. I'm meeting up with her later. Holy shit, my attitude is just so much more confident and positive already. I must've casually flirted with 7 people today.
