I see a lot of advice around texting that focuses on “what to say” — better openers, better questions, better lines.

But honestly, I think most guys are looking at the wrong part of the problem.

It’s not that your texts are bad.

It’s that you’re trying too hard to keep the conversation alive at all costs.

You don’t actually need to constantly:

ask questions

reply immediately

keep momentum going

That creates this subtle pressure in the conversation that people can feel.

And ironically, it makes them reply less.

What I’ve noticed works better is being okay with pauses and letting your messages stand on their own instead of always trying to “pull” a response.

Some of the best conversations I’ve had weren’t fast or structured — they had rhythm, not urgency.

Not sure if others see it the same way, but this shift alone changed how people respond to me a lot.

Curious what others think — do you feel texting gets worse when you try too hard to keep it going?
