I think the difference is that arrogant means you're placing more value on yourself than you actually have. Cocky means you actually do have high value, and you're not afraid of throwing it in people's faces.

You're probably making the same mistake I do: We make a game out of talking ourselves up, but since everyone knows we're not really as high value as we say we are, it actually ends up being just another form of self-depreciation.

I have a female friend that I usually joke around with in this manner (we have a "history" and are definitely attracted to one another). I usually let her make fun of me a little bit and play it off like I don't care, and then tease her SUPER hard about something that she gives me shit for, and it works like a charm. I try to avoid talking myself up though, cause it feels weird to do so.

If you truly don't intend to hurt someone with your comment dont worry about it. If they get offended then APOLOGIZE. This isn't a sign of weakness unless you make it one. Say what you think as long as it isn't extremely disrespecting.

You have to balance being cocky and funny. When you say it, and she isn't laughing, smiling or trying to touch you, you arent doing it right. It takes some practice.. Most guys often come off too cocky at first. I did. When you are cocky/funny, there's a certain amount of endearment in the way you say it, because you love women. You don't want to come off as angry at them or insulting.

But even when you do master it you still don't want to over use it. Use it like a spice, a little here and some here.
