What are some things that made you better at talking/starting a conversation with women?

Finding things i love and finding the communities that love them. Example, diving. I love being in the water, and taking pictures of the things I see. It helps diving women are some of the hottest in the swim suit, wet suit and out of both. And they excitedly approach new dive buddies and the camara. They started the conversation so much I got use to talking. Now I can cold approach most any woman, where it goes after that varies.

Everything becomes very easy the moment you create a context for talking with a woman, this means that it will be something both of you can talk about, it will be a mutual subject. Without context, it feels weird, and it actually is. You need to put in more effort when starting a conversation with a stranger out of the blue.

Before and still most times I only talked to women if they looked me in the eye, it happens more often in cold approach then in a semi social environment like the gym ( I think I look intense so they find it hard).

But in proximity to them I say something or try to catch their attention without looking directly at them and when the turn to look at me then I look them in the eyes.

As for what to say, indirect direct openers or environmental openers. I'll give an example for both just in case it's not clear what they are.

Indirect direct - (in a clothing store) "Do you think that dress would look good on me", her response, "just kidding, I thought that you were cute and wanted to talk to you"

Environmental openers - (in a cafe) "Geez the line is so long, I hope you're not ordering something big (if in front), I'm ordering something big you might have to wait a while (if she's behind)

- (at a bus/metro/train stop) - Going anywhere interesting (look for any clues like clothes, items or something) with what outfit/bag/items. [this one needs work as I get an approach invitation 1st before asking]

Accept that I might get rejected, but its nothing new. Keep it friendly, and non sexual. Soon as a guy starts getting explicit, its pretty much a turn off. Dont be one of those old dudes, catcalling women. Its embarrassing, and never works.

so basically what worked for me (former computer lab lunch kid):

• started with structured practice instead of just winging it. been using gleam (like duolingo but for conversations) - the daily quests push you to actually talk to people irl • read models by mark manson for the mindset shift • joined climbing gym for natural conversation practice • therapy helped with the deeper anxiety stuff

the key was treating social skills like debugging code - methodical practice with feedback loops. gleam's text exercises helped me stop overthinking every message lol. consistency beats perfection always
