Does the style in which you dress (preppy, goth, skater...) create intrigue, or is it just another barrier of entry into initial attraction.

I like to dress nicely. More specifically I dress preppy. Tucked-in J. Crew oxford, Brooks Brothers Milano (slim fit) pants. Leather Strapped watch. Haircut to match.

My question is: am I limiting the audience that will have initial attraction to me, because I live in a very young (hipster) city, and it's not the usual preppy atmosphere. I had originally viewed this as my own refined form of peacocking, however, I am starting to think it is creating another barrier of entry for me. To be honest, I get hit on by a lot of guys, however, in no way do I show any gay mannerisms, tonality, etc.

TL;DR: Does how you dress create the first impression before I get a chance to? Should I still dress nicely, but a little more "generic"?

Also, I would post this in AskSeddit, but I think it is something worth considering, and not just a newb question.
