What does it actually mean to "respect yourself"

It means that you value you for what you are, not what you have, what you do or how you apear.

Its the confidence you get by wining chalenges and achieeving things in your life. Its the confidence of knowing that life has thrown dificulties at you in the past and you managed to win over them.

Its also about liking and love yourself. You should see yourself in third person and think how you could be better, but also how you could be worst. Improving is always a journey, and you should look at how much you have improved, while at the same time being happy with who you are right now. And knowing that you will make mistakes, but you always have the option of solving them and becoming better.

It also means knowing that you are enough and that you can be happy and full by yourself, so you dont need to cling to others or depend on them for anything, while at the same time being able to share and help others and have enough intimacy to have true and fulfilling relationships. You dont need others but you are strong enough to share yourself and your life with others. And you are strong enough to be authentic about yourself and trust others around you so that you can have true intimacy with others.

In short, respecting yourself is finding value and recognizing that you may not be perfect but that you have many qualities which can help you achieve a full life. Its not about power, money, status or anything of the sort, its about knowing yourself, your values, your morals, your virtues, your goals, and also respecting and treasuring those around you. Its also about knowing what is important, either your dream, your woman, your family, your job, your health, and working to improve it and working to protect and defend it.

I was watching a series called Viking and Ragnar Lothbrock asks his son Bjorn what it means to be a man. Bjorn says that it means you fight and that it means you take care of your family. Maybe that is all there is to it: you should become a man who knows what he should fight for and also strong enough to protect your family, friends, spouse and kids financialy, emotionaly and physicaly. That is how you can respect yourself.

Above all, the opinion you hold of yourself is the most important. A man who believes in himself and in his value is confident, and people see that by how you act and behave. The way to believe in yourself is by facing dificulties and overcoming them. That makes you know you can win and get what you want.

It means putting yourself first in your priority list. Your health, your fitness, your higene and your goals requiere your time and attention, people who don't value the time and attention you give them are disrespecting you and if you continue to engage with them you are not respecting yourself.

It's a journey, it means learning yourself. Finding your boundaries and sticking to them.

If you can't even stick to your word for yourself, you will just come across as weak to others. I can walk away from anything as long as I've stuck to my core values.

I would say that respecting yourself is sticking to your values. The day you let someone step on your values, or when you are not living by your values, you are no longer respecting yourself. You just need to know your values and you will understand what respect means.
