I can relate. From experience I can advice this: treat girls as you would a close friend (joke around, neg, etc) while at the same time being clear in your intent (you want to be intimate). From there, move the interaction forward. If the girl resist, persist. If she still is not into it, drop it.

When you “try too much” it communicates to her that you want something more than sex and a good time. She thinks you want a relationship or will get too needy. I’m telling you this bc it happened to me a lot. I would show too much interest and the girl would reject me although she liked me bc she thought I would get too attached.

You can't say you are confident and you are a try hard in the same sentence. You are either one or the other. If you have to to try hard to get a woman interested it already means that you lack the confidence that you are enough as you are to make her interested.
