Why is a phone number a goal?

The phone # is NOT the goal. Getting a number is a step in the direction needed to get farther than the # (date, sex, gf, whatever). If you can get girls to meet you for dates and have sex with you...without exchanging any kind of contact info, got for it. I knew a guy who could do that.

Anything is can be an accomplishment depending on the person. For some striking up a conversation is success, for some its a #, a k-close, a f-close etc.

Because it generally means she would like to continue communicating. She see's you as attractive, and you've got a shot at some real "accomplishments" with her if you know what I mean*.

That being said, it is possible to have what I call an empty number close. You can have an interaction and get her number, but she has in no way entertained the thought of being intimate with you. This is why I think guys should be more proud of the content of the interaction itself rather than the fact that they have her number. If you can't confidently say you two had a little bit of a spark, on a subtly sexual level, then the number you have doesn't mean anything.

*I mean sexual intercourse

While it doesn't mean anything in every case, I think of it as an expression of interest or a test of attraction. If she makes any excuse or says 'add me on Facebook' like some guys seem to get here, then you know you're drawing dead.

Social conditioning tells us that it's a big deal when a girl gives a phone number to a new guy. The reality is that girls dish numbers out like candy and it's not a big deal.

In your early days getting a # close is a fucking awesome quick and small win you can get.

And everything that's been published in the positive and behavioural psychology space suggests that quick and small wins is the key to progress in any personal development endeavour... But I digress.

Bottom line: When I got my first number close from a complete stranger from a cold approach based on the stuff I learned through seddit.... My confidence soared. I saw that this shit works and doubled down on working on myself.

Yes it can become a crutch for newbies and intermediates to you know collect wood, and not kino and escalate: but we all have to start somewhere.

Focus on getting a number close, you'll become that much more motivated to get a K or an f close. As opposed to just sitting at home doing nothing.

It's not supposed to be a goal...more like a mile marker that shows you're closer to your destination than you were before.

I think a lot of new guys (like me) tend to look at it like a goal because when you're new to this, it's a simpler, closer goal to reach than the goal of sleeping with her/dating her.

You know, the whole 'set simple, attainable goals so the bar doesn't seem quite so high' thing.

There are a lot of guys out there who have virtually NO experience with women. Chances are, they also have a lot of beliefs that they are unattractive, unworthy, etc.

Getting a phone number might not mean much in the grand scale of things, but it can be a HUGE win for someone who can barely even hold a decent conversation with a woman. Even if it's a fake number or something, it's still a sign that they're making progress.

Someone who constantly puts themselves down should grab onto whatever successes they get. It'll serve them very well, emotionally speaking.
