It’s been almost 1 year since my divorce was finalized. Emotionally it was a chaotic time. What do I do? What do I say? Do I get to plead my case? It was over in under a minute. The meeting was virtual with other couples in the queue watching and waiting for their turn. We were first due to our last name. Judge asked her if there was anything that the court could do in terms of mediation or therapy and she said no, judge struck her gavel and that was it. 13 years wrapped up in 45 seconds. I didn’t get asked anything at all. That was it. I couldn’t believe how quickly it went down. That’s when I made up my mind that reconciliation was never going to be an option. Said my goodbyes to my past and started over again. It took a while but I met someone else and I’m happy with her. I look forward to seeing her and spending my time with her. A far cry from where I was a year ago today. Who’s gonna want a divorced middle aged dad? Turns out there’s plenty of people out there too. It gets better but it doesn’t happen on its own. You gotta put in the work too. You can do it, trust in God and trust in yourself.
