I get really fucking depressed after I drop off my 4 year old girl to my ex’s place on Saturdays. It’s our weekly scheduled parenting switch at 4pm after spending several days and nights with her parenting alone. It’s been six months of this new life schedule. My ex and I are both single.

My daughter and I are so close. She is also very close with my ex. Overall she’s an incredible kid with a big heart, so I devote a lot of time to my relationship with her. We have like a sixth sense between us.

After the Saturday switch, my mind darkens, I slump beneath a heavy blanket and nap on the couch, I have no energy to go out with friends after putting so much time and attention into my kid. (I make all her meals, play all her games, schedule and drive her to extracurriculars, plan friends, take care when sick, we read about 5-10 books a day, etc).

All of a sudden on Saturdays she is ripped out of my life. I am not a parent now. The house is eerily quiet. I don’t openly weep as much anymore since taking the SSRI. But my heart breaks every week and I miss my daughter and my family intensely.
