I’ll be very vulnerably real with y’all , these past few days I’ve just been down emotionally and self reflecting helped me come to the conclusion that I want to “clean house” social media wise. I deleted all OLD apps and then politely told the men I exchanged numbers with that I will no longer be talking to them because I need to focus on me (I did also let them know that their number would be deleted and I would not contact them either, again I was super polite about it). Then came deleting Instagram (my only true form of social media because I don’t have Facebook or anything else), it was hard to do at first because I truly felt like I would be missing out on a lot things. But, I continued to ask myself why do I have to take pictures to show people I went somewhere or what I’m eating or drinking or why I link disappointment to receiving a few likes after it took an eternity to take the perfect picture and come up with the caption? FOR ME, social media no longer felt like it was for me but for others. I feel like I was living for the validation of others “Hey, I think your life’s pretty cool. Here’s a like”. So, after a day of hesitation I deleted my Instagram because if I want people to see where I traveled they can look at the scarp books on my coffee table. And if I’m not inviting you over to see that shit then were we really friends to begin with?! Anyways, I only have a reddit, Pinterest, and YouTube (not sure if they count as social media) and I’m pretty happy about it.

I say all of the above to start the discussion of social media in today’s world. I feel like this a great community to have this conversation in because I really do think this sub is filled with extremely intelligent women.

How do y’all feel like social media is affecting our generation? Is there anything we can actively do about it? Are there any FDS members who have no social media? Why did you delete it? If you have no social media does it affect your dating life? What advice would you give people who feel the need to have social media for validation or others? What advice would you give your daughter or niece about social media?

I look forward to the comments and seeing what others have to say. Sorry in advance if something like this was asked before.

If someone hasn’t told you today. Don’t let anyone dull your sparkle.
