My HVM ex (he wanted kids I didn't) heard a noise in his driveway one night. A women had pulled her car in. He approached-she was being stabbed by the NVM in passenger seat (her baby daddy). He was able to get her out of the car and was stabbed in the process. Guy drove off and was later caught and tried (he's in jail). Ex was awarded a medal of valor by local police. That's the one story of bravery I have in 40 years of knowing men.

Most men spend more time mirroring women & PRETENDING to be x,y,z to fool & bed them than actually becoming what they pretend to be. Then they act shocked pikachu face when the woman wises up & ditches them. Oh please, you frauds had it coming from the start. Most of mens bravery is an illusion. Or ego fuelled. If you remove the ulterior motives, like sex or impressing the bros.... most time’s they won’t do shit for anyone else but themselves. Like these so called innocent ‘nice guy’ Male friends who buy women a coffee & lend an ear when they’re conveniently down in the dumps & spit their dummy out when they don’t get instant sex & adoration. Lol. They were just preying on someone vulnerable (who’s often conveniently more attractive than them or out of their league hmmm) & are big mad they didn’t get what they want. Predatory. Selfish. Entitled. Narcassistic. Me me me. They know it deep down too ...& they know that’s truly the reason they’re constantly rejected. They know they’re slimey little self absorbed pornsick shits- that’s why get rejected & try it on with their ‘ female friends’ who they are patiently waiting to go through a mental health episode. Hell a lot of them are happy to abandon their own flesh & blood, or cheat on their pregnant wives & will still lie when caught. Some have no shame. They can’t call a spade a spade even when caught red handed with evidence.

Insecure cowards are more invested in illusions & easy shortcuts...it’s why they get shoddy results longterm. It’s why they end up alone, in miserable relationships full of arguments or put back on the clearance shelf or become even more manipulative. They will never be happy & loved for who they are. Because what they are is....pathetic. They know it. That’s why they go to all lengths to hide it. That’s why they get no respect from quality women & repel anyone genuine. That’s why they prey on vulnerable, naive, lonely or troubled women when they’ve been rejected too much.

I am deeply suspicious of any man who claims he’s ‘brave’ bc of x,y,z or a ‘nice guy’ & doesnt do well with women. Most times they are in denial & anything but. Because genuine brave men don’t need to advertise the fact....bc they’re so fucking sparse they stand out like a wine stain on a white dress.

I cant be arsed to look up sources so I’ll use the term “cliche” as a title to for the following familiar situations in our collective zeitgeist. You know, those cliche’s where: •Conventionally attractive women are paid more? •Where straight men tip female servers more than male servers? •Where some bro-dude saves the day and a kiss or a phone number is “all the thanks he needs”?

Those things are literally examples of OP’s point.

Men are rarely altruistic. Their bravado exists only at trials to earn masculinity points. They don’t tip generously because they saw a cute young girl struggling, and they had plenty of expendable income. They tip generously because they believe it obligates the girl to give them special attention. They do it because they think everything is transactional. If a LVM gives you ANYTHING - You better believe they will remind you later that they expected more accolades. They think they deserve it. They keep “score”.

There are literally plots in film and fiction Where sexual abuse happens to a women specifically to make her more attractive-! Where women are accosted by would be rapists and then immediately made the romantic interest of her savior!

It’s as if men don’t even realize how unbelievably fictional that situation seems. They don’t understand how being extremely fearful immediately erases interest in reproduction.

My hot take is: The average man has never been truly scared. So they have never been truly brave.

I’ve been really struck over the years by the mutual exclusivity of courage/bravery/integrity and cowardice/manipulation/abusiveness - in other words, it really seems to be dichotomous - people (men and women) only fall into one or the other of those clusters and have a really really really hard time wrapping their heads around the other.

For example, my dad very very very much is the former (courage/bravery/integrity). We’re very very close, and when I finally had to break it to my parents that I was getting divorced, looking at my dad’s face in particular, I could tell that he was utterly and completely baffled - his expression was like when someone who barely speaks a foreign language is concentrating really really hard to try and follow the convo. The poor guy literally could not wrap his head around it.

First I had to explain that in fact we’d been living separately for quite a while. That he got. Then I had to explain why now I had to do a big complicated legal thing. That’s when he got hopelessly lost, he kept thinking he’d heard me wrong, “wait, he tried to shove a pill down [13 year old daughter’s] throat as if she were a cat!??” “Hold on, that spindle is missing from the railing because he ripped it out and then swung it at your head like a baseball bat?!” “What?! Those holes in the walls are from his fists?!?”

Sigh. Yeah, dad. That’s right. After each one he’d say “who does that?!?!” and “I don’t get it!” or “what’s wrong with him?!?!” Sigh.

Fast forward to watching the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings - I was really struck by how clearly and efficiently those hearings helped determine any given man’s integrity - like a douchy dude sorting hat!!! That made me really curious whether there were ANY men who were genuinely meh neutral on that ashpole, so I went on a quest to find out, and utterly failed - I could not find any guys with zero opinion - ALL were either baffled that anyone doubted what she’d said happened AND baffled by his behavior overall (in the past and in the moment) OR they were super defensive of him and riled up about the whole thing and furious that he was being so unfairly punished by having to listen to that whiney ugly bitch.

I’m grateful to know several genuinely brave men (and women) and to have direct knowledge of specific acts of bravery they’ve carried out, in part because knowing them makes it even easier to recognize the opposite.

One of my most unpleasant childhood memories has to do with male "bravery". When I was 5 years old, me and my mother were physically attacked by a neighbour woman (who thought her husband was cheating on her with my mother). She pushed me out of the way and was punching my mother until she fell on the floor, then still kept beating her. I was terrified and bawling my eyes out. Saw that a man was walking past us in the hall and felt relieved, thinking he will restrain the sick bitch. But to my shock he just walked by with a casual facial expression and ignored us. I even said to him "help us please", but 0 emotion or help. That was an adult man, unable to restrain 1 woman. "Provider and protector" no doubt.

My dad and his family are all brave and so is my mother (less so the majority of her family. ). In fact it was my dad who emphasized from a young age how important it is to respond even if you're the only person to react. Even if everyone else walks on by. Even if all you do is call the police (because obviously it would do no good if you end up hurt or dead yourself) -anything other than nothing. He taught me that even if your friends laugh at you, you stand up for the downtrodden. Even if you lose friends, you stand your ground and don't keep silent just to keep them. If you don't speak out then you are complicit. If someone makes a cruel joke, you call them out. These are forms of bravery. Bravery isn't just about some massive life-risking act of valour. Bravery takes all shapes and forms. Bravery isn't even about not feeling afraid. Bravery is acting despite the fear.

However most men would never, ever stand up to their own friends or a bigger dude. Most men won't call their bros out for hurting or abusing a woman and that, my friends, is cowardice.

Only time I saw men stepping up to the plate was to stop me after I'd already started taking matters in my own hands, like it somehow diminished them or made them look bad. "What's a woman doing with that?" What you certainly didn't volunteer for until your ego was bruised.

Make sure to out male cowards!! I've been telling anyone who will listen at work that last week a male coworker watched from his car as a huge guy approached me in the dark at 4:50am, (he was "harmless" thankfully), and my coworker just got out of his car and walked the long way to the office to avoid the interaction / didn't even look back to check if I was okay.
