I thought this article would be good to submit because it provides recent research (published this year) on a trend that we long known to be true. The scope of the research is a bit limited, so that must be acknowledged: it studied the responses to one online publication over the course of two years regarding female sex offenders.

And this is happening in a culture with a strong focus on consent!

Everybody knows about consent, everybody talks about consent, everybody says they respect consent.

All of that goes out to the window when it comes to men. Yet another demonstration of how little our society values men.

Imagine what society would be like if women were the dominant gender like now but always had been as well. If the right of consent had never been affirmed, what would that world look like?

Probably men being sexually harassed, men being raped because it's assumed they're 'always up for it' and all the other harmful attitudes and practices that existed when men were dominant and consent wasn't a thing.

More proof that it wasn't a gendered mistake. It was about humanity learning our moral boundaries in a world recently stripped of all religion, not about "men oppressing women".

What boggles my mind in those scenarios is the lack of empathy. Can't those people put themselves in the child's shoes? Can't they realize that if they were getting molested the attractiveness of the abuser wouldn't matter at all to them?

Part of me thinks this'lucky boy' excuse is less about failure to realize the harm and more about a reluctance to condemn a woman.

I fully support green old men being held accountable for their predatory behaviour, but if you're gonna protect children you must protect all of them. Boys are easier to victimise. This is why the catholic priests went after them more than the girls...

I really appreciate this being posted here.

Pretty privilege is a huge factor in perceptions of sexual assault, no matter how much we might disagree with the act the abstract. Being attractive (also read: white), can be a huge factor in whether someone has empathy for your situation and whether you're perceived as an abuser or not.

I'm curious if there's any information about this from the perspective of domestic abuse
