Gotta love having "fuck you" money. I am not ready to retire just yet, but I can get by on very little and everything is paid for.

I live in an area where the cost of living is low, and if I had to I could walk out of my job, go home, sit on the couch and not lift a finger for months without touching my retirement.

When I first realized that was a possibility it felt like a big weight came off my shoulders.

A rough day at work is a lot easier to deal with if you know that it's your choice to keep going rather than being trapped.

I worked out to need $60000 to live comfortably and put away money for investing (making over 100k atm)

Fuck you money will come at 600k savings, where I could average out 10% with investing, so not quite there yet but doing well

Be careful. My boss thinks I'm married. All the women I work with think I'm married. I wear a band to blend in. I want that fucker thinking if he/she fires me I'm going bankrupt, the wife is going to leave, I'm paying child support and living in the streets or jail. That is who they want working for them. They don't want a single guy that can split at any moment or have sexual harassment charges brought against them.

Was the same thing in my most recent job, everyone was confused at how I could be quitting, even though I have no debts, kids, or wife to leech from me. Once I got sick of the BS, I just said I was putting in my 2-weeks. Like you said, so many willing slaves that are oblivious of their own situations in life.

This dynamic is also what prevents any sort of resistance to government i.e. revolution from being a plausible option.

Even if hundreds of thousands of poor, sick, nothing left to lose lower class folks are rioting in the streets, burning buildings, etc, those of us who still have cable TV and a steady paycheck will toe the line, pay taxes, because we have to feed our families, pay our bills, and maintain our level of comfort.

you know what makes men take a hard corporate dick up their ass. debt. you gotta take the shitty job and horrible corporate life if you have so many bills to pay and mouths to feed that going 1-2 months with no job could fuck up your life.

me, never married. no kids. i have enough fuck you money for AT LEAST 5 years. i work, cause i like to work and add to my savings, but shit, there is a real amazing feeling when you realize you could just stand up and leave if anyone treats you unfairly.

or even small shit, like i'm a perfectionist and definitely have a high level of self respect for being a good worker. i want to be a good, responsible employee. but when you rely so much on monthly paychecks, its tough! and stressful. like maybe i have a very small insignificant thing to do, but it NEEDS to be done. but maybe time is short and work is piled up. if you got a wife and kids and NEED That job to survive, you're going to stress out so much about that small task.

now. sure i want to finish my tasks and work hard, but if there is a big day and work gets complicated and i can't hit EVERY little piece of work and hit every goal. its ok. and the fact is it usually is ok. often those important work jobs are not that important, and the stress is self inflicted.

I envy you Americans. Here in West EU the gov takes over half my paycheck before I can even get to it and gives it away to undeserving other people. I barely make 25k € after taxes so trying to save up for financial independance is a pipe dream (cost of living is also high). And that's with a very in-demand IT job in a niche field.

At my poorest I only needed 30k a year to survive in an expensive city. That is about 14 and hour. I've moved on since then but not my spending. MGTOW is FIRE.
