I feel ya. I grew up with a single father and am one out of the four kids. One of my siblings is from a prior relationship and my father took him in as well. Technically we should of been orphans. She never paid child support for any of the children and she left when I was 5, with my siblings being 7, 10, and 12. my father never pressed charges on it. She has many issues and it’s sad and I think my father has largely gotten over it given that all of his kids are in the 30s or older. Cheers to you and your son and I hope you found some peace from this situation.

I get that men and women should get the same treatment for failing to pay allimony, but what is the point of sending a person to prison for failing to pay allimony? Its not like sending someone to prison will help him secure a better job to pay.

As the wife of a (prior to me) single dad who never got child support from the incubator of what was a great young kid, I am happy for you. Sadly for us, when the biomother found out my husband had a significant pay increase to compensate for my inability to work, she convinced the child to go live with her. And we had to pay an obscene amount of child support after raising the kid for 15 & 1/2 years prior. There is nothing about child support that isn't about men being crushed. It's evil and broken and desperately needs massive changes.

I'm glad to read that the tides are starting to turn. Very glad. Equality is what justice is supposed to be about.

Knew a girl at my old job that owes the ex like $10k for the two kids she dumped on him. Real selfie culture, red hot dumpster fire. Not one consequence for owing that much. Flip the genders and it would be a different story altogether.

Look, I'm genuinely not concern trolling, but we really shouldn't be celebrating this. It goes against our platform when it happens to men, so that doesn't make it right when it happens to women. Debtors jails are wrong, even if legal techicalities like court orders were added to the mix.

That being said, the silver lining is that when bad things start happening to people that matter, in this case a woman, it gets attention from the people in power very quickly.

Just consider this objectively (genders swapped) before downvoting my comment.

OP this wasn't an attack on you, but I apologise, because I'm sure it will feel that way. I'm am happy you got justice in your case, and I hope things just improve from here.

I get your feeling of "justice at last". From your post it seems to be a case where it is duely deserved and it is indeed uplifting to see the law being applied equally (as it's supposed to), however one might feel about the laws that put parents in jail in general.

On a more general note, I'd be more in celebration mood, if no one gets to go to jail for owing child support.

In Canada (of all places) they have recently made changes where parents not able to pay child support are given help to find work rather than being jailed, iirc.

And no, this is not a "now that it affects a woman I suddenly care"-issue. Rather, I try to apply my standards equally. If I don't want men to go to jail for owing child support in general, it would be hipocritical to think differently about it, if a woman is affected. Thank you for appreciating this nuance.

I am unsure without knowing her side of the story it is possible to speculate anything.

If it for child support, let it go. You have custody. All the time you waste fighting her will prove little justice when compared to focusing soley on raising your kid to understand people like their mother. What is most valueable for kids costs little.

I am assuming if the court ordered this, then there is VERY good reason and in this there is a huge victory for equality. So thank you for sharing, I hope for your kids sake things can improve.

As a single dad myself I shoulder quite a bit because the relaity is their mom will always be their mom and they will someday need to reconcile that for themselvs. In this, I try to educate and understand rather than fight. Even in "winning" what is really won? You may have not chosen this life when having a kid, but they never chose to be here at all. A sobering fact when it comes to understanding kids, weather their parents are together and happy, or not.
