So there seems to be a lot of skepticism about "alpha fucks/beta bucks" to the point where many people seem to just think it's extremely unlikely. I've seen and heard this study and other similar ones many times from many sources in different fields. What is the thinking or data behind those that find the idea "beta buck/alpha fucks" unlikely? Discuss.

EDIT: After much discussion no additional data has come forth. However, someone did link to a more descriptive version of the study. Through discussion and reading the full study, I realized that the 15% difference is not a difference in rated attractiveness by women as I thought it was. Instead it is the difference in times that the masculine version was chosen over the feminine version. This makes the difference fairly small and decently likely to not have a very big effect on mate choice. I just figured I would update in case anyone else had the same misconception about the 15% difference that I did.

BONUS: I came across this while reading the article I linked. I thought it was interesting because it lends credibility to many seduction ideas I've seen thrown around before about having attractive women around you when you're putting yourself out there for someone you're interested in.
