About half of all babies born today are outside of marriage. My mother had me without any intentions of me having a father figure. Having a kid isn't a decision just for couples. With that reasoning, I don't think a man should have any say on if a woman aborts or not. It's her body and should be entirely her decision.

A man should have control over his resources and money. Each should have their individual choice to be a parent or not (with the exception of a woman wanting to abort and a man wanting to keep it). I like the idea of a guy having a choice to not be a parent. But he has to make that choice while the woman can choose to abort. I think a clause that allows for post birth abandonment if he isn't the father would be a good fix to the paternity issue.

Securing rights over an unborn child would remove the "choice" of the woman.

In order to reach the most egalitarian solution, the explanation is clear: permit potential fathers to declare their intention to abandon parental rights and responsibilities before birth. This allows the woman to make a fully informed decision about abortion/adoption/keeping the child.

I almost wrote "in the case of unwed pregnancies", but the more I think about it, the more I think it should apply to ALL pregnancies so that the mother has full information to make her decision (Holy shit having a baby right before a pending divorce? That sounds AWFUL). Clearly there needs to be a time limit - notifying a potential father at 8 months 2 weeks is not acceptable, nor post-birth. There will be cases of women who are "unaware" of pregnancy for 6+ months, and that will have to be dealt with (but really? WTF ladies? My wife knew she was pregnant well within 2 months, it takes some serious body fat to miss a baby).

I have no problem with a child who was born with pre-birth father parental right revocation going into adoption. It would increase the amount of infant adoptions (since those are the most desirable) and decrease the amount of older child adoptions as less women would be "caught unaware" by abandonment.

1.) Paternity testing is often not done until after the birth of a child due to the potential risk to the fetus.

I believe that is incorrect with modern testing methods. Can be done by a simple blood test on the mother. Isn't the proposal against your constitution though?

The biggest problem is slutty women who slept with multiple guys in the same time frame and one declares he does not want the child, while other only wants the child if it is his biological offspring. However, you probably won't know who the father is until you are well after the ideal time for an abortion.

How high is this burden of proof for rape? Given that court cases can take years, I'm guessing that a stat dec or something will be sufficient.

Allowing a father to secure paternity rights over a child undermines the woman's rights, the only fair solution is to allow legal abortion for men before the cut-off point at which a woman can have an abortion.

Better for who though? It's not better for society as a whole because someone has to foot the bill for the single mother's bad life choices. Here in the UK the state pretty much picks up the tab, with a small means tested contribution from the dad
