Lately there have been quite a few posts asking where to meet members of the opposite sex. We all know the bar is a bad place to meet quality people.

And, strangely enough, I haven’t met anyone watching Seinfeld on Netflix, perusing the aisles of Whole Foods or feeding my beta fish.

It has been suggested that women should go where men are in their natural element. (i.e. Boat shows, gun shows, hardware stores, etc.) All good ideas, but you can only meander around Home Depot so long before people start to think you have a screw loose.

So I asked some people on this sub for ideas and they suggested Ultimate Frisbee. In case you’ve never heard of Ultimate, it’s kinda like soccer with a Frisbee.

I love team sports. I love the outdoors. I had nothing to lose and so I signed up for a league in my city. (I had played for fun with friends in college, but no real experience. I will say, I'm pretty naturally athletic.)

My experience can be summed up in this meme:

So I’ve only been to two games, but it has been a very positive experience so far.

Pros:

  • Fit, athletic men. You can’t run up and down a playing field for a couple of hours without a baseline level of fitness.

  • The odds are ever in your favor! My team has 12 men and 4 women.

  • Smart, gainfully employed men. The guys I met were engineers and geologists. (Turns out, some of them even work in my building and recognized me from work, but had never started a conversation before.)

  • Great exercise. At a bar you are adding calories with each drink, with Ultimate you are burning calories with each step.

  • Friendly people. Everyone was very welcoming and encouraging. The other girls on the team were down to earth and happy to have more ladies on the field.

  • You can wear a skirt! I’m up for any sport that allows you to retain your femininity with a cute skirt.

Cons:

  • There are none. Sign up today.

Of course, YMMV, but I’d say it’s definitely worth whatever small fee you pay to join the league. If nothing else, you will make some new friends and get a great workout in the process.
