I realized today that my mom is abusive towards my dad, and I don't know why it took so long for me to think of it as abuse. My dad literally never did anything substantially wrong, intentionally or carelessly in his role as a parent or husband for as long as I can remember. He is a mild mannered nice guy and even on the rare occasion that something upsets him, he'll push back stating his case and then walk away. My mom is hyper-vigilant and accusatorial (my dad never blames my mom for anything) and her anger ranges from nagging to full out yelling over dinner about some perceived slight. I've never understood where she was coming from when she gets mad. My dad has said "I don't think she is able to change that about herself". I always just thought it was something normal, but mulling over TRP the last few days, I realized its completely unacceptable and it really is brutal for him. If it was the other way around, and my dad was constantly nit-picking about ridiculous crap and giving my mom shit daily, I probably would have labeled it as "abuse" without hesitation, so TRP did provide a wake up call. I am super pissed, and I don't know what to do about it, I probably won't do anything, but if he walked out on her, I would struggle to sympathize with her situation. My dad seems like he is disengaging from life to some extent, and when I visit them now he has a bottle of wine over dinner and watches sports. My mom gets fever pitch angry and yells over dinner quite frequently, she has a short fuse. I never had an "anger phase" but this really pisses me off because I realized how I mentally downplayed this abusive behavior, that would have infuriated me and been easy to identify as abusive had it been directed at my mom. And my dad puts up with it quietly and without complaint, when he should be able to just chill out, enjoy is life, or at least share his time with someone who cares enough to treat him well and consistently.

Edit: Thank-you everyone who has taken the time to write a thoughtful response. I have decided to relabel this post from "ranting/venting" to "blue pill example". Take what I am about to say with a grain of salt, because I am no expert, but my parents situation is precisely why I feel the for TRP. My dad is not just a solid guy IMO, he is by any measure, whether it be education, wealth, masculinity, intelligence or whatever an objectively solid guy, and the situation with my mom has spiraled out of control to the extent that it would require therapy to make her into a pleasant and reasonable person. If it can happen to him, it can happen to you. I personally am going to be on full-TRP protocol when I screen prospective women, because it's better safe then sorry.
