Unfortunately, following the advice "don't shit where you eat." "don't fish off the company dock" etc is easier said than done. You ARE going to feel attraction towards your female coworkers. It's inevitable to feel powerful attraction for women you spend a large part of your daily life being around. I think the majority of us have at least hooked up with a coworker at some point in our lives.

As other sedditors mentioned, the fallout from the breakup can be brutal though. Office gossip, facing the person day-to-day after it ends, etc. People mention the sexual harassment aspect, but I've personally never seen that legal issue play out in my experience. More commonly, the high level of emotion from the sour relationship causes either the guy or the girl to quit the job. I've seen that occur many many times.

I'll throw in another saying "Sometimes you just have to whiz on the electric fence" in order to feel the sting. Try it once and you'll remember it for life.

While there are many girls in the world, sometimes it's hard to get yourself in out there to meet all of them. At work you're already exposed to a bunch of attractive females and don't need to worry about putting yourself out there as much. A small work environment can help force you to interact. Not all of us have the ability to pick up women at the grocery store.

The only advice I can give is to try to slow play your game. Start off with a flirty friendship and see where you can go from there. Don't rush into things as it can come off as a little creepy since it is a work environment. If you can maintain that flirty rapport then just bite the bullet and ask her out.

Dont! This is the worst possible idea if you like your job. Then again if you don't care about your job then don't take this advice. Sexual harassment can be set off with a hair trigger. There are plenty of women who you don't have to see on a daily basis that will probably be just as willing if not more willing to get with you.

As someone who did make the mistake of fishing off the company pier, my recommendation is not to do it. There is an exception. If you work in a very large company (over 1000 people at your location) and the other person doesn't work in a department closely linked to yours, you may be ok, but you still need to be careful.

The biggest concern with harassment is if one of you is a superior to the other. Definitely stay away from this scenario.

It can be difficult to avoid this. You are working with these people many hours every week - you will get closer (potentially) to some of these people than you will with people outside of work. You will get to know them better and the likelihood of finding someone interesting is very high. Still, all relationships, with the possible exception of your final one, will fail. I agree with some of the other posters - befriend them, use them to meet friends outside of work and, if you decide you will leave the company, go for the full court press before you go.
