The self-made man, for a lot of the reasons that have already been mentioned: clearly driven, creative, hard worker, self taught. My SO falls more into this category, and his creativity and drive are so attractive. He's definitely a risk taker, but he's very smart about it. It's really fun to hear him talk about his latest idea and watch him think his way through it. I think the self-made millionaire in your example would have a lot of these traits. I also would appreciate the flexibility. Of co…

I'll be super curious to see how fasting and sprinting in the same day goes! I've always been too nervous to try that. Good luck! Edited to add: I'm realizing my "good luck" may have sounded sarcastic, but it was not meant that way at all! I really do hope it goes well for you and that you see awesome results.

Meals I've been dealing with low energy and mid-morning slumps and, after talking it over with my SO, I came up with a new meal plan that i believe will address the issue. Today is Day 1... and so far, SO GOOD. Basically, I want to keep it up with this new plan. Additionally, I want to keep a fairly comprehensive MyFitnessPal log for the month so I can track low energy days and see if there's a correlation with my food choices. Fitness Run 3x per week (2 weekday, 1 weekend), yoga 2x per week (1 …

WOW, this is gold. Pure gold. Thank you for this. RPW has taught me a lot about expecting more from myself and knowing that I can choose to be better and do better. I think this speaks to the male side of it. A man doesn't have to be at the mercy of his anger. There are mature, healthy, productive ways to manage and channel anger at his disposal - and he is both admirable and attractive when he chooses one of those over a tantrum.

Oh boy, that's a tough, important question. I won't pretend to be the final authority on this subject, and this is far from a comprehensive dissection, but I do have some thoughts to share, having been in an emotionally abusive relationship. Painting with a broad brush, I think it comes down to a man's goal when he communicates with you. If his goal is to communicate a concept to you (i.e. "I was hurt by what you said," or "I think a different dress would be more flattering," or "I've noticed yo…

How about dessert or a fun drink when he comes home? Hot chocolate, a cocktail, his favorite beer, or just fresh cookies from the oven.

The one thing that really stood out to me as a brilliant "action item" was to facilitate anticipation. I loved how she talked about this as a way to create excitement and cultivate sensuality leading up to sex. You know the old saying: men are like microwaves, women are like ovens. Start preheating well in advance of dinner time! I definitely like it when my SO and I are playfully hinting all day. It helps me relax and be more present because I've been making headspace for it all day rather than…

My SO and I love to go hiking together! Optional bonus that does require an upfront investment: we both have hammocks, so we'll often bring the hammocks in a backpack and hike until we find a place to string them up, then just chill for a while and talk, read, stare at the trees around us. I highly recommend it. Gets you both moving and soaking up some nature goodness, plus it usually facilitates great conversation. Also, make dinner together. Find a fun recipe and start chopping. It's a good wa…

So first, I have to say, I have a habit of thinking out loud to my cat, and after I read this, I said to her, "Cock Klepto is really wise, kitty." And the silliness of it gave me a much-needed laugh. So thank you for that! Thank you for the perspective on how/what he's probably thinking. I definitely needed to hear it from someone else. I will leave it be. And I will come running back here for a bonk on the head if I start feeling tempted to push the issue! And you're right about the fact that h…

Oh, this is so very wise. Thank you so much for writing this up. Your perspective is so helpful. I think you're right about not ruining a good thing by rushing to the next thing. My phrasing probably gave him the impression that I was tapping my watch, so I will go into the next stage of the conversation (when he brings it up again) with a more exploratory approach so I don't accidentally turn on the pressure cooker. And yes, you're right: he does feel drained. And then I went and accidentally t…

I totally agree that travel is a great cohabitation test! We've traveled together quite a bit, and I noticed right away that we handle stressful situations well together, i.e. no snapping at or blaming each other. I also like your point about independence. We actually use that word a lot, since it definitely applies to both of us, and it would be great to approach the situation in a positive way, like, "Okay, keeping this important factor in mind... how should we make sure we both feel happy and…

I appreciate and understand your concern on this. I should provide some historical context: I asked him on our third date what he was looking for in a date and where he saw his future going. He said that he did want to get married someday and emphasized the fact that he was looking for a (his exact words) "stable partner," as opposed to something casual. We've also had a lot of conversations about vague future things involving both of us, i.e. "Maybe in a few years we could do xx," and he's alwa…

I really like your thoughts on how to approach the conversation in the future, i.e. making it about "here's what we want, individually and as a couple, now let's brainstorm how we can make all that happen" as opposed to "here's what I want vs. here's what you want." What a thoughtful way to gather information without pressuring him! I do wish I'd had this thought yesterday, but I will definitely take this approach when it comes up again. He responds well to that sort of thing (we like to brainst…

I won't bog you down in details, but I remember a situation in college in which it would've been very, very easy for me to cheat on my long-time boyfriend and get away with it. I didn't really consider going through with it, but I vividly remember thinking through the logistics of how, exactly, I could initiate the dalliance and hide the evidence. It was a little scary just how easy it was - and I realized, in that moment, that he probably had been in or would be in similar situations in which i…

So you are saying...open the gifts he gives you, not the ones he doesn't! Ha! I love this! You pretty much nailed it. And yes, some people, men and women, just aren't great at verbally expressing their love. Doesn't mean the love isn't there! My SO isn't especially poetic, but he gives lots of hugs and kisses and likes to help me with tasks whenever he can. He also loves just spending quality time together. Those are the ways he expresses love. Now that I know to look for those things, I don't w…

I remember having a really unsatisfying conversation with a boyfriend when we were apart for a few weeks and being really upset and worried about it. I mentioned it to my mom, who has been happily married for 30 years, and she said, "Sweetie, I still occasionally will hang up the phone after talking to your dad and think, 'Ugh that wasn't a very good conversation.'" It's normal for phone communications to be weird. Even weirder when one or both partners are kind of at the mercy of someone else's…

If this is something you're really considering, stop being physical with him immediately while you make your decision. Physical intimacy can cloud your judgment, and you need your full faculties before diving into something like this. I think u/kekerae pretty much covered it. Unless he is VERY actively pursuing recovery and/or is already sober, it should be a hard next. If he's had encounters with the law, that can limit his ability to find steady employment, and relapse can jeopardize that as w…

YES agreed! Physical touch is like the exclamation point on your compliment and lets it soak in. It also gives him a chance to blush and grumble good-naturedly if he's not used to getting compliments. He can just return your affection instead of feeling like he has to respond eloquently. At least this seems to be the case with my SO!

Do 1000 sun salutations in June. 24 down! I have a spreadsheet. Meal plan consistently. This means weekly meal prep. I fell off the wagon HARD in May and my body is craving some normalcy. Secondary goal: eat as many of those meals as possible out on my patio. Decorate my living room and kitchen walls. It will make my space so lovely! My mom helped me rearrange my living space when she was in town (she has such an eye for that kind of thing), and now I can't wait to get the finishing touches in p…

Receptivity was the single biggest thing I had to master when venturing into the realm of psychological femininity. You have to learn to receive. Women these days are expected to be able to do everything themselves, and while there's nothing inherently wrong with that, we've entered this mindset where we equate allowing someone to do something for us with an inability to do it ourselves. I.e. I can pay for my own dinner, I don't need a man! I don't need a compliment from a man in order to feel p…

'I'm an independent woman and I shouldn't have to change myself for any man' attitude. I definitely struggled with this in the beginning of my RPW days, but there are two pieces that make this easier for me to embrace: "...for any man." It's not for any man. It's for YOUR man. Your awesome sexy superhero of an SO. He's worth it! "I shouldn't have to..." Emphasis mine. You don't have to. You're choosing to. This is a choice you make, not an enforced law that you're required to follow. Laura Doyle…

I made it clear to my SO pretty early on that I wouldn't have sex with him until we were commited, exclusive, and official. All told, our first romp in the hay happened just over two months after our first date. Sooner than I originally anticipated but I felt very secure and confident in that decision, not to mention the relationship. He was very understanding while also being vocal about wanting to have sex. But it was more along the lines of "I'm so excited to have sex with you when the time c…

Lack of resourcefulness. Not only do I find this unattractive, it speaks to an inability to make leadership decisions, which matters both professionally and in a relationship. Insecurity about my level of physical activity. I do a lot of running, yoga, hiking/backpacking, and kayaking. I don't need a guy to be as active as me (assuming he takes good care of himself), but if he gets really weird and defensive when I talk about all the stuff I do, I'm out. Ditto my sobriety. As a vegan runner, I used to say that I would only date a vegan runner, because I was under the impression that these traits belonged to someone who would totally understand and relate to me. Then I dated a vegan runner, and he was incredibly abusive and manipulative and treated me like garbage, so... that theory went out the window and I flailed around ideologically for a while before realizing a more sound theory. The alignment of "surface level" traits doesn't matter as much as the alignment …

I have no issue with pet names, and I swear my SO makes up a new one every time he sees or texts me. I get all the regulars, like sweetheart, babe, baby, honey, and sometimes babygirl (I'm with u/rainbowkitty77, I sort of love it...). But then I also get "peanut pumpkin," "sweet peat," "chickpea," and all sorts of other goofy stuff. Never a dull moment! Okay, so I am replying to this one million years later (took a Reddit break for a while), but they are GREAT! We made this recipe and he absolutely loves them. The coconut oil gives them a really velvety texture, and they're oddly light. I’ll preface this by saying I don’t live with my SO, so this list isn’t a full picture of what a wife would offer. I cook for my SO all the time. He can cook a few things but tends to be a pretty basic chef. When I’m cooking, he gets really delicious food (and some variety), along with companionship, a listening ear, and the knowledge that the meal he’s eating was made with love just for him. It’s not just about the food; it’s emotional support! I also help him with recipes that he makes himself…

Goodness gracious, do I love this! Great insights and honesty! but it's hard to gush about your BF without being seen as boring, lame, unintellectual. I brood a lot on the phrase "a servant's heart." That's an ideal that transcends femininity and masculinity but has a particular relationship with the feminine, and it's one I consciously want to cultivate. I seek to be nurturing, un-egotistical, supportive, to want to serve my darling life partner. Not all men, not men in general, not "men" the p…

I also don't like it because it completely removes the romance from the dating process. I do agree with this to some extent, and it’s a challenge my SO and I talked about on our first date. He observed that he didn’t meet as many new people in his day-to-day life as he liked to think he did, which is why he went the online route. There’s not much cute or romantic about our “how we met” story, because it essentially boils down to “We both swiped right because the other person was hot and we had s…

Really thought-provoking article, thank you for sharing. I think about this in my own workplace a lot. My job is an interesting balance of creativity (writing, planning, indirect customer service, design, web creation) and structure (analytics, data, numbers, deadlines). Feminism fought for women to be able to enter the workforce, which was a mans world. Feminism didn't change the workplace; it's still designed with men in mind. YES! So much this! The competitive rat-race one-up-manship of the workplace is not feminine and I find it incredibly taxing and exhausting. Great article, and a topic currently near and dear to my heart. I walked away from an abusive relationship about a year and a half ago, and I’ve identified some patterns that I’m working to break, so #3 really resonated with me. A lot of people have identified me as the victim in my old relationship, and they are technically right. I'm totally Team Tinder! I met my SO on there, as well as the only other guy who made it past Date 1 when I was single. I'm a total broken record on this, but here are the things I like about Tinder: Pre-vetting. Guys can only message you if you've pre-approved them by swiping right. No sifting through dozens of "hey" and "wanna make out" messages. I believe this is also appealing to men, the pursuers, since they aren't sending message after message into the ether with no hope of response. The w…

A number of very important points here. I first want to address this widespread call for women to be sexually liberated. Sure, sexual liberation is so very important for women. It could be one of the most important issues for us to focus on for the sake of women, because it encourages them to feel free and happy. After all, sex can reduce stress. But wait. Free, happy, and liberated? Liberated in what? This is important. Because, it’s one thing for women to be liberated in their sexuality, and i…

Not romantic, but he was practically over the moon. This was my mom's reaction when my dad replaced her broken and beloved two-cup Pampered Chef liquid measuring cup. Sometimes the least traditionally romantic gifts are actually the most romantic because they so delight the other person - and because their partner is the only one who really understands just how much joy the gift brings them! So glad your man was happy!

I would agree there are some issues that he is more sensitive about - but sometimes I won't know until he is upset. This is a red flag, IMO. You should be able to trust your partner's reactions, in some way, and trust that he won't lash out at you unexpectedly. If something does set him off, he should be able to handle himself like an adult and practice some restraint. You should not constantly live in fear of him getting fired up over new topics.

I've said this before, and I know this is a very unpopular opinion, but I had the most success on Tinder. For a few reasons: You have complete control over who can talk to you. Random creeps cannot send you messages; only guys who you've "swiped right" can. And if they end up being creepy? Unmatch, and they can't find you again. It’s very, very easy to spot guys who are just looking for plates. You can weed out bad eggs very quickly. I have a suspicion the pool is bigger. Because a Tinder profil…

I made this red lentil chili with these corn muffins, and it was a delicious combo. The chili makes great lunches, and the muffins add good texture. Plus they're super fast to whip together! Also am a big fan of these vegan buckeyes! They have toasted millet in them, which adds a nice crunch. Really great recipe, highly recommend!

The thing I love about Laura Doyle is how actionable her advice is. She doesn't get so crazy specific that you feel like a robot, so you can really tailor it to your man and your relationship, but she gives clear guidance on what steps to take.

They claim it's because trans women can't truly understand what it is to be women and could always regain their 'privilege' by transitioning back to being men. Haha I've heard this perspective before and I'm always like... for Pete's sake. It's privilege bean counting.

So true. That and I often am reminded of many people's deepseated fear of being alone. I am of the opinion that being alone is a good thing and indeed a better thing than being with the wrong person, and i suspect many feel that way, but it's much easier in theory than in practice.

Books on the brain this week. Has anyone read Dear Lover by David Deida? The Amazon reviews are really mixed, and I wanted to know what the RPWi community thought before buying it. I just finished reading this book, and I totally want to talk to someone about it! Has anyone else read it? So it follows that "super cranky, bitter, disenfranchised, pain-in-the-ass girl who doesn't care about her appearance snags the hottest hunk around" trope, which I'm growing weary of, but there was this really i…

Beautifully stated. The last two paragraphs really resonated with me. I think this extends to your SO to some extent, too. My SO brings so much joy and stability to my life, but it’s not like I’d recruit him for craft night! I have my girlfriends for that, but he’s my go-to guy when I want an adventure. Obviously my SO is different than a friend in many ways, but he does fit into the equation. On a different note, I appreciate your writeup of what introversion looks like for you. My SO is very, …

I hear you on the drinking thing. I also don't/can't drink, and it's not always an issue, but sometimes it is. I tend to leave parties very early because drunkenness is so off-putting to me. I have very few friends who don't drink ever, but I have a mix of friends who drink to stupidity versus friends who make responsible decisions. I have a lot of opinions about alcohol culture... feel free to PM me if you want to talk more! Suffice to say, it's hard to suss out sober friends, but I believe the…

Here's a snippet from Amazon: Every woman knows the fairy tale: find the right man, give him what he wants and needs, and he'll love you forever. But when the myth you've been asked to believe fails to deliver—when you sense you've been settling for far less than you know in your heart is possible—how do you attract and keep a man capable of meeting what you most passionately yearn for? He's written a few things that the TRP dudes really like, but this particular book is geared toward women. The…

Thanks for writing this up. Very thought provoking. I'm curious how many younger people will refuse to see it simply because of the negative connotation of the Red Pill "brand." RP means nothing to my parents, so if the synopsis is compelling to them, they'll watch it. Other folks, on the other hand, might boycott it just because it's got the RP label on it, without stopping to consider what the film is actually about it and the message it sends. Nothing to be done about it now, of course, but I…

I’m feeling very conflicted about this article. It’s a long read, but a very intriguing one. Curious to get your thoughts. SAME. Poor guy, just got smacked with more bad news at work, and I know it's going to suck up a lot of his time and attention, and I have to remind myself that it's not about me and the best way I can support him is to respect that, give him space, be ready when he wants some TLC, and not make it about me.

This is a great article. I love this thought: One of the central concepts I teach is that at any given moment, we are operating from one of two possible intentions: The intention to learn about loving ourselves and others. The intention to protect against pain with some form of controlling behavior. My mom always tells us that you should never fight to win, because when your goal is simply to win, then you're turning your partner into a loser. Wise woman.

parents who “engage in bedtime-stories activities” should definitely at least feel kinda bad about it sometimes The author's phrasing is hilarious. “I don’t think parents reading their children bedtime stories should constantly have in their minds the way that they are unfairly disadvantaging other people’s children, but I think they should have that thought occasionally,” he said. FFS.

Good luck! You're doing the right thing by running. I did two Tough Mudders a few years ago, and I was shocked at how many people do that thing with no cardio base. But on Plan B, men and women diverge in catastrophic ways: almost 70% of men want to revert to traditional gender roles. Faced with that option, nearly 75% of women want a divorce. I have a friend who lives with her fiancé, and I once asked her how they split up household chores and why they divvied things up the way they did. I don't remember details, but I do remember that they made some decisions specifically in order to avoid traditional gender roles, not based on what they each liked and/or…

I also think this article ignores the very real pressure that men feel every day, especially those that are in the traditional male role as the head of the household. The idea that they aren't thinking all the time at home is solipsistic - just because he doesn't have the same thoughts or concerns as you doesn't mean he isn't thinking at all. Such an important point. I've been reading Fascinating Womanhood, and while I know she can be controversial, I was really impacted by what she said about t…

A fantastic point! High school gives us all the tools we need to learn these things for ourselves. Just because you weren't spoon-fed the exact skills and knowledge you need to manage your exact life doesn't mean you aren't equipped with the resources and basics necessary for, you know, discovering these things for yourself.

I credit a lot of it to having such wonderful, loving, open parents, but I suspect that at least one of my siblings would test very differently from me, so who knows? Also, given what I've learned from knowing you online for a few months... it is not shocking to me that you and I are the same type! :)

I always would explain it as the art of pouring tea. It's such a mundane activity, but you do it with this touch, this elegance. My husband will ask me to pour his coffee in the mourning so he can watch me do it. I don't know how I learned how to pour coffee elegantly, but I remember watching my mother. She would tell me how to do it (when I wanted to do it for her) and would make me set it down and pick it up correctly. Okay now I totally want you to teach me to do this... but it reminds me of …

I have most definitely griped about this before, but can Instagram just get over the “LOL I’m so lazy/gluttonous/poor and I 100% do not have my shit together LOLZ!” attitude? I’m so weary of memes that normalize and justify not only having bad spending, eating, and productivity habits, but also not doing anything about it. There are a thousand ways to make a dish. No way to know his intentions but I doubt they're harmless. Unless he's straight-up telling you that he wants to get back together (and NOT via a dating app), then he's probably looking for attention or a hookup. I made this mushroom risotto on Friday and it was spectacular! I replaced the leeks with shallots. My SO and I both loved it. I have a pie question. Funny you should mention it because there is a very specific glitch in my routine at the moment! My kindle died (R.I.P. dear friend), and I've been using my iPad to read library books before bed. This is appealing to me. I also am curious about what the TRP gang consider to be good qualities in women. Your feelings don't always have to be rational, but just don't act on the irrational ones. This x100000! My mother, an endlessly wise woman, always coaches us in this vein. She calls it your rational mind versus your irrational mind. They both have a voice, and they both can tell you important information, but you have to be careful which one directly informs your actions. I love how succinct your version is.

I'm curious. What does that look like? The actions behind complete, 100% support? Can you share a few things your MIL said or did that really knocked it outta the park for you? I think

This is, without question, one of the most important and impactful lessons I've learned from from RPW. My SO's battery is drained all day by the many challenges he tackles at work. I want to recharge him, not bleed away his remaining dregs of energy. For the record, his battery recharges double time when it's plugged into cuddles and a plate of cookies or a homecooked meal :) It's amazing how much positive power your words have. I always tell my SO I believe in him when he's facing a tough issue…

Right now I'm going through a "roast all the things" phase. My absolute favorite quick dinner: Preheat oven to 425°F. Peel and chop a small sweet potato. Toss into a bowl. Rinse and drain some canned chickpeas, then roll ‘em around in a tea towel or paper towel to get them dry-ish. Add to bowl. (I usually do ¾ cup or so – leftovers can go in the fridge) Drizzle on some olive oil, then whatever blend of spices and seasonings you like. My blend: garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, smoked pa…

Good I didn't overbook myself this weekend! It was really wonderful. Lots of rest and cooking and cat snuggles and reading library books. A good reminder that I'm so much happier when I make an active effort to take time for myself. I went for my first decent run since my race, and damn, did that feel good. My SO and I had both a wonderful date night and a chill hang-out afternoon. I think we do a pretty good job striking a balance between those two things, a balance that really suits us. It was…

Finally had a chance to read this! What a fascinating article. What's interesting is how many of those yes-buts are about things that can, to some extent, be controlled. "Yes, but... it doesn't matter if you're rich/hot/educated/employed/socially adept." Actually, it does, and you can take steps to become those things. This is information you can use to your advantage if you take initiative. "Yes, but... I don't wanna."

I read and loved this article yesterday: Social Media Isn’t The Reason You Feel Inadequate. You Are. A few highlights: It’s certainly not difficult to point a finger at social media — or pop culture for that matter — for our “unrealistic expectations” about literally everything. But the truth is that Instagram hasn’t given us false expectations any more than Sex and the City wrongly prepared us for adult life. The only ones we can really blame for those feelings are ourselves. BAM! As adults, we…

Steal away! Have you read A Ship Made of Paper by Scott Spencer? There's a really beautiful passage in which this woman gives advice to a couple. She talks about how a common phenomenon she sees in relationships is the tendency to assume that your partner is just like you. As a result, when your partner does something or reacts to something differently than you would, you get mad or feel hurt or confused by their behavior. So she encourages the couple to remember, notice, and celebrate their dif…

That's what I meant by you not being the only one and by talking through that whole bit about averages: you're not abnormal or weird. The phrase "special snowflake" more or less refers to someone feeling like they're the only one. My point is that you're not. You are 100% justified in wanting to save it for the right guy. If a guy doesn't honor your feelings about it, he's not the right guy.
/r/RedPillWives29/11/16 01:20 PM

Averages and "norms" exist because there are values on either side of them. The average of 2 and 4 is 3. What you fear to be abnormality is just variability. And if you're looking at ALL women in your country and when they lose their virginity, that is a HUGE data pool, which means there are dozens, hundreds, thousands of women who bid farewell to their panty flower at or later than the age of 20. I say this with love: you are not a special snowflake. Maybe the women in your immediate vicinity a…

I'm 26 and met my guy online. The process can be a little annoying but it can be done, and Tinder has evolved a lot. If you're smart about it, you can find really great people on there. Chiming in to whole-heartedly support this excellent advice: In the meantime, do some research about any sexual things you’re unsure about. Ask your friends, look online, watch videos, whatever you need to do so that you can feel more at ease and you don’t put too much pressure on your next boyfriend. Obviously you want a partner who will make you feel safe/comfortable and whom you trust, but you can take steps to empower yourself. I was quite a late bloomer on the sex front, and a dear friend a…

I’m grateful for how funny my SO is. The longer we’re together, the more I see his funny, silly side come out, and it makes me so happy I could do cartwheels. He had me in stitches a dozen times this weekend when we were traveling. I’m grateful for my body! I’ve been feeling really strong and healthy and good lately. I’m grateful for my friend A. She is so smart and funny and genuine, and I always, always feel better about life after hanging out with her. It took me a while to really notice just…

Because how on earth would they conclude that keeping on using their highly coded ingroup language to talk to other people would result in them persuading these people. YES YES YES! Clinging to the in-group language is just patently absurd. Acting like you're better than me because you can use "intersectionality" in a sentence isn't going to have me tripping over myself to help you.

Not only did you take the words out of my mouth, you said them better than I could! I have a lot of introverts in my family. Some of them are friendly, functional adults who take full responsibility for finding the time they need to recharge. Some of them use it as an excuse to avoid social responsibility and general act like total brats.

BRING THE SALT. Social media, especially Instagram and meme culture, enable shitty attitudes and behavior. It normalizes things like laziness, bad eating habits, being irresponsible with money, hating all men, not putting any effort into appearance, etc. and empowers people to think these attitudes are funny and acceptable. I’m pretty much indifferent to the “fat empowerment” movement and I think fat-shaming is a needless waste of time. If you want to be fat and feel sexy, go nuts! You can feel …

This is such a great challenge! I usually only see the same 20-odd people every day (and they're all women) since my office is in the middle of nowhere, and I don't live with my SO, so it's way too easy to be like, "Nah, doesn't matter if I look blah today." I did that yesterday and I FELT blah all day! Ugh! This will definitely get my rear in gear! And I know I always feel better in general when I look nice, regardless of who sees me. My hope is that this challenge will give me the kick in the …

I do my hair at night too! My hair is super thick and takes one million years to dry, so I virtually never wash it in the morning. My favorite overnight tricks: Wait until it's mostly dry, french braid it into pigtails, and sleep on it. Wake up with fantastic bouncy texture! I always get compliments when I do this. Blowdry it mostly straight before bed, then sleep on it. Whatever weird spots you get while blowdrying will soften overnight, so you have a natural-looking blowout look in the morning…

I found a few "would you rather" lists online, which was a blast! My personal favorite: the celebrity name game. One person names a celebrity (you can also play with movie/book characters), and the other person then names a celebrity whose first name starts with the same letter as the previous person's last name. I.e. Bob Dylan, Donna Summer, Steve Martin, Molly Ringwald, etc. I could play that game for hours. If you're playing than two people, the order of gameplay goes around the circle. If so…

A close friend of mine recently gushed over the fact that her new boyfriend was listening to Disney music in his car when he came to pick her up. Her actual words: "I've found my soulmate.” Somehow his musical choice is a sign that they’ll be together forever, more meaningful than the fact that she regularly feels neglected by him and he is constantly making her cry. I’m baffled by the arbitrary indicators of compatibility that we search for. The surface-level traits and affinities, the shared i…

The dilemma is that I'm a college student, and most of the other female students wear athletic shorts and a baggy T-shirt to class and around campus, so I feel like wearing more formal clothing will be too out of place. I feel this - thankfully, there is a middle ground! You can make small upgrades and see a big difference in your confidence and how you are perceived. If you pick a sundress over shorts and a t-shirt, that's a step up. If you pick a flattering v-neck sweater, fitted jeans and boo…

5'10" woman chiming in! Girl, PREACH. In addition to the shoe challenge, I'm guessing you also struggle with finding pants that fit? I have a 35" inseam so I feel that. I distinctly remember a conversation with my infinitely wise father about this. He said that his love for our mother is, to some extent, conditional. Does he forgive her and support her and understand that she is human? Of course! But if she were to cheat on him, abuse him, treat us or his family unkindly, make destructive choices, etc. there would come a point at which he would leave her. He might not stop loving her right away, but he would not stay with her. He said that his love for us, his …

That makes me so sad. My SO would rather die than propose in front of a big crowd. I can't imagine setting expectations that would make proposing to me was a source of stress and anxiety for him instead of a joyful occasion!

My guess is that the orgasm is the product of being able to relax and be comfortable with him, not the other way around. Regular orgasms are also a sign, in many cases, that your hanky panky partner has taken the time to learn what pops your toast, another indicator of bonding. TL;DR IMHO the bonding is not the outcome of orgasms, the orgasms are the outcome (ha) of the bonding!

I'm really sorry your friend said something so dismissive to you. That sounds needlessly unkind. It's baffling to me that she would treat your sweet gesture as silly or stupid... Well, this was affirming on a lot of levels! He is, mostly definitely, a giant cat. What's interesting is that my SO's cuddle affinity is largely separate from sex. When I go over to his place, he'll say, "Let's sit on the couch for a little bit," and within 60 seconds he's got me completely horizontal and wrapped up in this boa constrictor snuggle burrito. What a great list! My SO is a textbook introvert, and #7 has been an important one for me. When he's dead tired and just needs to be alone and recharge, it's not personal. It's just the truth, and if I take it personally, it'll just add to his stress and exhaustion. So I respect his space and make sure he knows I'm available if he wants some company when he's feeling exhausted. Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't. Why is it considered (by many on the left) to be empowering for a man to dress in drag, put on makeup, and look fabulous, but for a woman to wear the same makeup and clothing, it is considered trashy or over-the-top? When a woman is obsessed with fashion, she is shallow and vapid. When a man is obsessed with fashion, he is sensitive and artistic. I've dealt with several flavors of this recently. I think everyone else is right that speaking negatively about your partner, even with positive intent, is an invitation for bucket crabs to go to town on your relationship. In my recent experience, even a passing comment - not a complaint - about your relationship that a friend sees as a circumstance they themselves would not want can lead to this kind of attack. Allow me to tout one of my favorite People Categorization Models! I am a huge Gretchen Rubin fan and love her Four Tendencies. You can read up and take the quiz here. My SO can always be charmed with baked goods! He and I had a "date night in" at his place the other night (we wanted to be together but we also wanted to read our books... solution = reading snuggle pile). I whipped up these, texted him to preheat the oven to 350, then brought them over covered in foil so he couldn't see! Then he had to smell them baking! :) and of course he tried to get up when the timer dinged so there was some play-wrestling when I pushed him back down on the couch and brough…

Good: Had a super snuggly low key "date night in" with my SO! I brought over baked yummies to surprise him, and we piled on the couch together and read our respective books. It was so relaxing and fun. Every so often he'd scoop an arm under my legs and tug me closer or just wedge a hand under my butt and pretend he wasn't doing anything weird. It was funny and adorable and made me feel really loved :) Bad: Sometimes I get a little tit-for-tat internally over how much alone time he needs. Nine ti…

In the winter, I usually track where he is with the Find My Friends app to time a warm cup of tea or cocoa. This is fifty shades of brilliant. My SO is a total sucker for banana bread, wondering if I could recreate this concept... maybe offset it by ten minutes so it's just starting to smell magical when he comes in the door!

As an on-and-off anxiety battler, I have two go-to tricks: Journaling. Just process through it. The way I visualize it, your hamster is running on a wheel on your head. Putting pen to paper and letting it all out - as formally or informally as you want - is like opening the cage door and letting that furry little guy out of your head so you can be calm once again. I have an actual journal but I have a friend who actually just uses a legal pad. Do whatever works for you, and give yourself a few m…

It's always seemed to me that it's worse if I leave the item in the washer too long before throwing it in the dryer. Yes! It gets that funky, almost mildew-y smell? Mama bear taught me to use vinegar for that too! Works like a charm.

Put a cup of regular white vinegar in the wash! Just pour it in there with the detergent right at the beginning. My mom has used this trick forever with great results. You just described my SO to a T! He is SUCH an introvert and loves his alone time! There's a lot of great advice on here already so I'm going to just be a broken record. Introverts just need their quiet time. It has nothing to do with you. He would need quiet time in or out of a relationship. When you miss him, just remember: by letting him have his alone time, you're letting him be himself. And what a gift that is! My family is 60% introverts, as is my dude, and I often hear that introverts don…

Could you do the bulk of the cooking ahead of time and do the finishing touches in the evening? Make soup on Sunday and then reheat it (on the stove, not the microwave!) during the week with a take-and-bake bread or similar. Casseroles also work! It's worth asking yourself if creating tension in your relationship is worth the pleasure of debating. Would you rather be "right" or be in a happy relationship? Actually... How should we approach big groups of friends with this mindset? I'm a runner, and we tend to move in packs. It's a big, wonderful community. I don't hang out with any of the guys individually but we'll often go running on mixed groups. A lot of us have SOs, both inside and outside the running community. Is that... "okay"? I read an article a while back about how the fact that Bella is softer, a bookworm and not a lightsaber wielder, makes her appealing for the very reasons other posters have outlined: We can relate to her because we're not intimidated by her. It makes me wonder why there is no middle ground character, someone between Bella and Rey or Katniss. The character who can hold her own, bubble with feminine energy, make great things happen in her own space and the world without having to take up the arms …

Your 2nd point pretty much describes me completely! :) I loved reading and loved the strong female protagonists that didn't focus on beauty as a main attribute. Totally. I absolutely agree that there is a place for this. That's where I'm more of a Katniss fan than a Bella fan. Katniss is a grump, sure, but, as u/bchsweetheart pointed out, she has a lot of really powerful and important qualities. I agree completely, with this and with u/pantheratigris95's similar point. It's tough to reconcile the fantasy of the "nothing special" protagonist with the daily reality of how important self improvement is. I don't know how to say this without feeling condescending to the reader, but it begs the question whether some readers are willing or able to delineate between the two? I'll use myself as an example here. I loved the "nothing special" protagonist theme because I was, to quote Tigris, an ug…

Part of being a good partner though is branching out of your comfort zone to offer what your SO needs - I'm extremely interested in how other women find successful strategies to step outside their box and trust that relating through personal experience is not what their partner needs, even though not doing so can feel as if you're not helping at all. Would love a conversation or how-to or toolkit surrounding this. I struggle with this.

A very fair point, especially the bit about the meat of Katniss's story existing outside her romantic entanglements. It's one of the things that makes her so unique as a protagonist. For what it's worth, I don't consider in the same category apart from their shared prominence in the YA lit scene, which is I've placed them side by side for this write-up. But I really appreciate your separation of them here - I neglected to address that. My quarrel with her story is how aggressively she resists th…

Which is to say... you can't change the past (and I hope you can be kinder to yourself about that), but your future is all up to you! What can you do next - or right now - to get yourself moving down a new path? None of us are born with the red pill in our mouths like a silver spoon. Honestly? I’m working really hard on cultivating a feminine appearance. I cannot tell you how many years I spent terrified of my own sexuality and femininity. I know you said you're not really interested in online dating, but if you're intentional about it, there are a few diamonds in the rough!
