I don't agree that we've spent thousands of years with sex being condemned/hidden/repressed. I call this the Victorian fallacy - mapping Victorian notions of sexuality on to all of history. If you actually look at societies throughout recorded history what you generally see is many of the same sexual themes we see today. Sex has always been a big part of humour for example.

Check out this ancient grafitti. That was drawn by an ancient Egyptian during or soon after the reign of one of the few female Pharaohs, Hatshepsut. Hatshepsut is the one bending down on the right. I'll let you figure the rest out for yourself. Not so different to grafitti people might do today huh?

Feminists don't have any actual moral or ethical principles as a liberal would recognise them, with the exception of loyalty I guess. That tends to be a right wing ethic. Loyalty to the movement and hatred for those outside it (tribalism) is the only ethics a feminist has.

So if you ever find yourself thinking feminists have a moral principle as here. Think again.

At the same time you have feminists walking around New York topless to prove some fucked up point about how oppressed women are or something.

Having said that it's surprising to me that feminists are not more anti-sex than they are because sexual purity tends to be something that right wingers go for a lot. A good way after loyalty but still.

This is just a theory of mine that I can't back up at all, but it's related to MR so I'll let it fly:

The USA is always the example given for an over-sexualized society. Many believe that this means American men are sex-crazed. But why? What makes American men so much more interested in sex than the average man?

Maybe rather than being innate, it is a product of needing more stimulation to feel the same thing. So the real question is: why don't we get turned on until the sexualization is turned up? Perhaps it's because one thing that 85% of American men lack that others don't is sensory stimulation from their penis. Just a theory.

everywhere i go i see food for sale, on billboards, in shop windows, turn on the TV and people are eating all the time .... my god when will it stop?!

anyways, no i dont think it is "sexualised", i think that humans simply like sex, just as we like food, sunshine, beaches, water, and so on. but for some reason some people think sex/nudity is bad, which i dont understand ...

the baby cows see the parent cows having sex/being naked and it doesnt seem to destroy their minds, the fish see their parents spawning in a big egg orgy and they seem to be ok with it .... the monkeys have sex in front of eatchother, so why this argument that it will damage human young in someway, should they happen to be exposed to something that is as natural as taking a shit?

i think it is the "sex is bad", "sex should be hidden" people that cause the issue with sex and nudity. i think its completely twisted to cast a bad light on natural behaviour.

if you dont like nudity/sex then dont watch the movies that its in, dont read the magazines and dont watch TV, and go do something else.

id actually say the opposite, sex is still far too repressed in our society, and though im not a nudist, i think clothes should be optional, and people should be allowed to have sex wherever they want to, in public too if they wish, and everyone else needs focus on their own problems and look the other way if it offends them so much

yeh I think it's true. Sex sells and so all the corporations will use it to sell more of their product whether it's magazines, website hits, fashion, movies, tv shows you name it. It's like processed foods. Sugar tastes good so they pump it into everything now in order to sell more, then you get hooked on it and need more and more so they keep pumping more in.

Is it a bad thing? I don't know the answer to that and I imagine it would be hard to work out. Maybe it's effects on children may be negative towards their relationships and growth although I can't say for sure, that's just a suggestion.

Judging from the behavior of bonobos, one of our closest cousin species, we are very far from being over-sexualized.

If we're too sexualized, they're free to move to any of the nice Islamic Republics, where men can't show thigh, and women walk around in bags.

No, In the US and Canada society I find that sex is treated more as a commodity while in other cultures it is more just a part of life. I also find that feminists are right in to that idea that sex / women are a commodity. They think anytime a man looks at a woman anywhere they are "stealing" sexual pleasure from her and that is one of the most up setting thing to a feminist, the same as when the wrongly tout that Rape is the worst thing that could every happen to a woman. No it's not , losing all your limbs could be , burns covering 90% of your body is up there. Various inflictions that cause horrible pain yup , but rape yet traumatic is not that bad in comparison . But feminists believing sex as a commodity think that a woman has been robbed of that sex commodity. I think have to get feminists out of the conversation because they see every thing as Sex and sexual intent / rape, Ie every man is a rapist and every woman is a sexual victim rather then people who have sex

While I agree with your point that it's hard to determine the "correct" level of sexuality for a society of humans... I think American society is definitely somewhere on the side of being over-sexualized.

I'm a sex-positive person, I do not want a return to the times of sexual repression and shaming people for what they wear, etc. But we've got 10 year olds with eating disorders who wear pants that say "JUICY" on the rear. We've got ridiculously blatant ads that take things to extremes to use sex to sell, like Carls Jr. using slow-motion videos of women in tiny bikinis... taking a bite out of a burger.

There should be a time and a place for sexual content. Again, I'm not saying everything should be censored and people can't do what they want because "think of the children"... I just think it's reasonable for society to try to keep sexualized content in places where it belongs. And we do this to some extent (Game of Thrones doesn't air on Nickelodeon at 4 PM), but there are a few things we could be handling better.
