I was a victim of the Metropolitan Police's policy re. domestic 'violence'. I got into yet another argument with my abusive single parent, whom I defended myself against, resulting in them calling the police on me. The two female officers spoke to us and left. They returned 5 minutes later, having been told by their 'management' that they have a 'policy' to always arrest in domestic violence cases. So now, because I told the police the truth, I have a caution on my record - not a warning, a caution. It prevented me from beginning my career in the Met police's engineering division, which is something I have to live with every day. I will now have to explain myself to any school if I want to work with children, and on record, it doesn't tell the full story - in fact, it tells no story. It reads the same whether I pushed back or punched - assault. The system is fucked, and to cap it all, when I was released from the police station, I was given a pamphlet about how all these poor women are victims of domestic violence. Yeah, they are, but fuck, fix your shit. The statistics lie, they probably always have, and most likely always will.

Ah, the government loves going after domestic violence.

No one really knows what's going on inside a home. Most are he-said she-said cases. Regardless of who they arrest, it's impossible to prove the police did anything wrong.
Excuse for police and the government to increase its power, leading up to the holy grail of them being able to monitor what goes on inside your home.
Great way to break up families, which strengthens the government and increases wealth transfer from men to women. Also creates a dependent class who now vote for those politicians offering them the most entitlements.
If you put more resources into "being tough on domestic violence," you get more arrests, thus "proving" an "epidemic" of domestic violence, requiring more police resources!
War on domestic violence is like the war on drugs or war on terrorism. There is no winning condition, no way to measure success, and they can always find statistics to justify spending more money on it.
Great platform for politicians to campaign under. They're tough on domestic violence! Let's pass some more laws showing just how tough we are, and mention "women" and "children" to get the laws passed.

Always arrest is the STUPIDEST policy in the world. OF COURSE there's going to be a lot of arrests. Someone can just say they were abused domestically and whoops always arrest. One of you is going to have something on your criminal record, lol!

This is even weirder than it seems. In England it is unlikely anyone arrested for domestic abuse will do any real time. It is unlikely the police will actually do much to protect any actual victims either. You don't have to watch 'the wire' to understand what a pointless headline exercise this is. Nowhere is it mentioned they have bothered to assemble any sort of case to keep anyone actually dangerous to their partner away, nowhere does it mention that anyone will be available to protect any vulnerable partners when their violent other gets back out, which won't take long.
