I often get in arguments with women, either on facebook or face-to-face, and I have not once had a positive outcome. The argument usually starts when a woman makes a bad point, either a fallacy, opinion, or citing a bad study. I will step in and say that it is wrong. A couple of red-herrings and slippery-slopes later and the argument is out of control. I try to call people out on their cheating, and I don't make any points unless they are backed by numbers of some sort. The studies I cite are almost always ignored or discounted because of their sources. Whenever my opponent makes a decent point, I try to acknowledge it as a sign of good faith, but this is not returned or even noticed usually.

How can I establish boundaries and ground rules for debate?

Is it even possible to argue this sort of thing between the sexes without people getting personally offended?
