Intersectionality and Kyriarchy are related. Intersectionality is supposedly an understanding that all of us have different privileges. Kyriarchy an understanding that society is made up of different and overlapping pyramids of power.

In practice, intersectionality is used when feminists want to answer the question: who is more oppressed by older white males, Group A or Group B,?

Like intersectionality, kyriarchy seems theoretically better than patriarchy, but again in real life practice it seems to have the same problems as intersectionality does, which is it is still used fundamentally to place the blame of all of society's woes on mostly older white men.

Both of these words are not used to understand reflexive power structures and understand the different power dynamics, but are used to place a partial ordering on oppression.

I once saw a wonderful image that demonstrated how using intersectionality we could see that a straight white woman was more oppressed than a transgender black woman.

It's bullshit. It's part of an unfalsifiable ideology. Patriarchy was found lacking, so they invented kyriarchy. Sexism against men [or "reverse" sexism,] was found lacking, so they invented benevolent sexism.

When your ideology has to reinvent itself because it cannot hold up to scrutiny, it is not scientific. It is shit.

"Kyriarchy" is a feminist PR job to make their "Patriarchy" crap sound less bigoted. Not by being less sexist against men of course, more by allowing that people other than women can get on the victimry gravy train.

But it's basically just the same anti-male hate as ever.

It's a word used by members of the chattering classes; an invention to satisfy some twisted desire to politicise a problem that is essentially personal. A waste of time thinking about.

I've always seen it as more of an oligarchy, which is much the same as kyriarchy, I suppose, but it's a term that people are more familiar with/can look up in the dictionary.

I'm actually in favour of kyriarchy. It largely removes the male boogeyman in patriarchy and replaces it with much more palatable theories of social inequality (which I believe exist to varying degrees). It still isn't exactly science, but if the choice is between patriarchy and kyriarchy, the latter is by far preferable.
