Reading some of the comments on the site made my head hurt. Dudes should be able to dress like women if that is how they feel. That said there are many things in just about all dress codes that are arbitrary and hardly fair but going to public school means you have to abide by arbitrary unfair bullshit. I am all for lobbying to change the policy but if it is policy(the kid says it isn't but sloppy journalism doesn't confirm it leading to me that it is conflict with the boys narrative) you have to submit to it and my guess is the boy knew it was going to be a problem. I doubt you get suspended for your first dress code violation so my guess is this kid pushed back against an unfair policy and shit head officials pushed back harder.

I thought this was an outrageous story until I saw the "southern Maryland" in the story. There are many states that are very closed off to non traditional approaches to gender.

According to what the story says, females are allowed to wear skirts and there was nothing stating that males could not wear skirts in the dress code. They are saying the skirt he wore was too short according to the dress code, the story also says girls wearing the same length skirt were not told they violated the dress code. Either because he was a male wearing a skirt, it brought attention to how short it was, or he was actually being discriminated against.

Donahue had a show on back in the 70s I think. guy on there wore skirts. I think his were long skits too. He was there talking about men's rights. I had forgotten about this until this story.

He also had a show on about a woman who had her kids taken away for breast feeding them until age 5. The Time cover brought that one back.

I guess he was more ahead of his time than we knew.

Personally I'm for schools being singular sex and having uniforms. That's just my belief for greater education.

Kids are way tooooo distracted with all sorts of social issues in a pluralistic (speaking dress code and personal expression) multi-sexual school. So I guess what's the big deal about one skirt in that environment.

If they had a legit dress code as part of the rules (as many many schools do) then they didn't go out of their way to target him, he went out of the way to violate school rules. Until I see something that says a girl went around school in a bikini and wasn't punished, there is nothing wrong with this.
