ok i actually live in barrhead close to braehead shopping centre , they are jobsworths of the highest fucking order there, apparently the security guard was pissed that he wouldnt delete the picture of his daughter , the police seems to have danced around it , im out of curiosity going down to see just how prominent the no pictures signs are.

Basically its not that you shouldn't take photos, its just that certain people shouldn't take photos... And they have decided its men around young girls.

If there are signs saying you can't take pictures, you can't take fucking pictures. If you don't like the rules of the establishment, take your business elsewhere.

After some pretty intense backpedaling and rationalizing in their press release, Braehead corporate had this to say:

Although Friday’s incident had nothing to do with a potential terrorist attack, the two retail assistants and the member of our security staff were faced with a situation they genuinely thought was suspicious. They witnessed a man taking photographs of a child, unaware that the man and the child were related. I’m sure people will agree it is better safe than sorry.

So it seems to me that the shortfall here is the training employed by the shopping center, and one of the vendors in the center. The ice cream store employees saw something they deemed suspicious and weren't armed with the tools they needed to delicately handle the situation. They called the security guard and he didn't ask the right questions when he got there, causing the situation to escalate.

Instead of "Sir, have you been taking pictures in here? I'll need you to delete the blah blah blah derp derp."

He should have simply asked "Sir, how old is your daughter? Ah, I have a niece that age, she loves the ice cream here... Anyway, we have a policy that forbids taking pictures inside the blah blah derp derp."

This came from one of the BBC comments.

People mock this treatment of the man but I have researched this on Google and there has never been a major terrorist atrocity at Braehead. Clearly this policy works - and you can't put a price on safety!

And I have an anti-tiger pen which works because I have never get attacked by any tiger.
