My 2 cents: If the guy actually Assaulted her (= physically attacked her, even if it had been in a non sexual way) it's entirely reasonable for her not to have to cheer for him; imagine how demeaning that must be!

Why was He even on the team if he assaults women?

First of all, let me say that I am 100% supportive of Men's Rights and I find the tactics of many women to be disgusting. But the comments on this post are one example of a bad thing about this subreddit. Many men who read this subreddit seem to forget that women sometimes also lose rights. Whether or not she is telling the truth about being raped, this guy did plead guilty to misdemeanor assault and the girl was kicked off her cheerleading squad for refusing to cheer for him. That, in my opinion, is a violation of her rights. But that's not what bothers you about this situation, of course. It's the fact that feministing used rapist in the title. MensRights is about things like women fabricating rape in order to get custody of children, not nitpicking about a headline. I might get downvoted into oblivion for this, but it's true.

Oh yes, the problem here is DEFINITELY that the guy who was charged with sexual assault and pled guilty to misdemeanor assault is referred to a "rapist" in the blogosphere - not that a teenage girl was harassed and persecuted by her school for refusing to chant the name of her assailant.
