Should prostitutes be on the sex offender registry? I certainly don't think so, any more than teenagers who send naked photos of themselves or have sex underage. Just because one scenario is ridiculous, doesn't mean that another is less so.

Yes, it's fucked up. All I can hope is that it induces a major overhaul of sex offender laws and whats classified as a sex crime. Hopefully this will be the catalyst for it becoming a more rational system.

Surprisingly, the center for constitutional rights actually does say that 75% of people convicted in Louisiana for the Crimes Against Nature law are women. CCR seems like a valid source to me, but is that actually true? Are similar statistics true for other states? If they are I'll have to seriously rethink my stance on a lot of topic brought up on this subreddit.

Please help me figure this stuff out!

Prostitution is a sexual crime. It shouldn't be, but it is.

The prostitutes belong on the sex registry a hell of a lot more than men peeing in the bushes or mothers breastfeeding their children.

The laws in this area, are completely insane. I think the registries should be removed entirely. At this point they are completely useless and the government has proven again and again that if we simply reform them to be for violent pedophiles, the government will take little time to expand them to include a huge amount of unrelated people making the registries useless, again.

SCAN affects mostly low income women and transgender women of color.

SCAN is a registrable sex offense, however it is not a crime committed against children or minors. The crime doesn’t involve minors or children at all. The majority of SCAN cases involve a person and an undercover police officer.
