This hilights a disturbing trend.

As a male in my late 20s (as many of us are I would assume), I very often get treated with suspicion whenever I'm near a kid. I'm clean cut, have a respectable job, and don't seem "edgy;" for some ungodly reason parents treat everyone they don't know as a probable kiddy diddler.

That unaccompanied minor would (statistically) be likelier to get molested (edited to insert: IF HE WERE) flying with his uncle than next to a stranger.

Good guy. Sued em and donated it to charity.

Maybe some of you dont realize this but there is no better place to molest chidren then in a small enclosed space with 100 people who are forced to either stare at people or watch the latest sandra bullock abortion.

BA initially defended itself and said when staff originally made the request they genuinely believed Mr Fischer was travelling alone and had no intention of embarrassing, humiliating or angering him by asking him to return to his allocated seat.

A BA spokesman said: "We had 75,000 children fly with us last year and it is an issue we take very seriously. We look after these children as we have been given this responsibility by their parents."

The spokesman said the flight had been extremely full and there had not been a great deal of flexibility.

I love how their defense basically boils down to: well, we didn't mean to upset you; you should just accept that your penis makes you a potential child molester and not get so huffy about it; and, it's not sex discrimination because they just want the kids to be safe.

If this is a long-standing policy, I can't believe this is the first time anyone's made a scene about it. Or are Brits really that non-confrontational? Do they have any evidence this policy makes kids safer? (They don't, because it doesn't.) And even if it did, it would still be discrimination-- maybe justifiable, but their logic is like "Apples are good for you because oranges grow on trees."

On one hand, the evidence is there that a vast majority of molestation is perpetrated by heterosexual males. That being said, children are more likely to be molested by someone they know in familiar settings, which makes the whole stranger danger argument at least somewhat misplaced considering the facts.

I'm conflicted, because even though "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", this man was obviously put into a very inappropriate, discriminatory situation because of this rule and even seems to be a good guy.

I am sure it is much easier for a flight attendant to have this rule rather than rely on a small crew to police a very large group of passengers whose activities are often obscured by the architecture of the plane. It may not be "ethical" or "fair" but it is extremely convenient and may very well have done enough good in the past for a few children to merit its creation. Or, maybe not. Is there even a way of knowing??
