So, girl here, using a throwaway account because I don’t want to be judged by other girls, or political groups for being here, I live in a very republican state and my identity being discovered could put me in danger. I have a genuine question, so my parents were married when they had me, my dad was great for the first little while, they were even wanting more kids, until he stopped taking his meds, he refused to get back on them, and self medicated with alcohol. When my mother was pregnant with my sister, he pointed a bayonet at her stomach and threatened to stab her with it. The courts agreed he should have to pay child support during the divorce. He has actively avoided getinng a job or anything since then, making sure my sister and I got nothing from him while his mother took care of him. I understand he wasn’t and still isn’t in his right mind, but I lived in complete poverty for a good portion of my life, despite the fact that his side of the family was rich. Is this right? I’m not sure how to feel. But I wanted to get some left wing opinions on it which i can’t get in my hometown. He also hasn’t called me once or contacted me at all since I was like six when I saw him for the final time, he wasn’t even supposed to be there I was visiting his mother, he and I had began arguing about something, his mother stepped in between us just in time as he raised his fist and hit her instead of me. And this last question is personal. But recently he sent a letter, it was only a single sentence, a phone number, and his signature. I know he’s dying now due to liver failure, but, I don’t want to answer it, whats your stance here as men, should I give him another chance?
