The post reads
"When white ppl bring up 'Black on black crimes' they really mean to say 'yall kill each other why can't we kill you'".
Here's a link to it: https://www.instagram.com/p/CP9izVRBpak/
I thought this post was really well worded and brought up a good point, so I thought I might extend it to male rape victims.
My comment said
"Exactly. Same goes for women who say 'men rape each other more than women rape you, so it doesnt matter that legal rape definitions exclude female on male rape'".
I got a lot of responses, some good some not, I just wanted to highlight one convo to get you guys' opinions.
They responded
can’t tell if you’re being for real or mocking the post and using their logic against them😂😂😂😂
I said
No I'm for real. Mens activism is staunchly pro Black Lives Matter. I just want equality in rape legislation and sentencing.
Them:
Oh😂😂😂😂😂😂😂I agree with you that male rape isn’t taken as seriously as female rape and that does need to be fixed. But usually that argument is only used to take a jab at women. The vast majority of male rapes are committed by other men ((I think it’s like 92% but I would have to look it up again))A female rapist is a very uncommon thing and not something the public has to over worry about. If you’re walking alone in the dark would you be more scared of a guy behind you or a girl?
But I know women still do rape men ((and other women too))and it should be treated the same. I’m just saying that it’s not as highlighted or known as much because it’s not as common.
Note:
"((I think it’s like 92% but I would have to look it up again))"
That statistic is very arguable for a few reasons, most obviously because rape laws and many rape surveys simply don't include rape in which the perpetrator did not penetrate the victim, unless the victim is underage. It also doesn't account for the intense stigma that male victims are under; so much so that many male victims won't admit to themselves that they are a victim or report as such on surveys, despite the situation qualifying as rape or sexual assault.
It's also literally the same logic as the "black on black crime" thing that the post was addressing in the first place.
Me:
"Men rape each other, why can't we rape you?" Thanks for saying it should be treated the same at least, but if you agree with me why are you being contradictory?
Them:
The committed crime should be treated the same. Not the risk factor of “who” because that varies. Men and women are not the same when it comes to “who might hurt you” so I don’t see why we should treat it the same. And I mean that in a way like I don’t think people need to fear women AS MUCH as men because there’s no basis to treat them as a whole that way. But I saw in a comment you said you were assaulted by a woman, so your situation in that is totally different
Me:
I get where you're coming from, but you should be warned that that's almost word for word the same rhetoric that white supremacists use. I choose to be cautious around everyone I dont trust rather than just one gender.
Them:
The post got that argument REALLY wrong. People bring up “black people kill more black people than white people” to show that white people are not the biggest threat to the black community, because that’s the narrative even though it’s not true. Not to say they aren’t a threat at all, but they are not the BIGGEST. The biggest threat facing the black community is black people killing each other. Solving that problem would help and save more black people, since more black people are hurt from that.Any white person who thinks black people killing each other gives them an excuse to kill black people as well is just...I don’t even know😂😂😂😂😂😂 That makes zero sense
We should be focusing on the racial motivated killings as well as the majority of murders on black people which are committed by other black people. But yes, if a black person is worried about getting killed, should they not worry more about another black person doing it if they are more likely to be killed by another black person? To be fair though, I think that number difference is a lot smaller than the man-woman situation we were talking about
Me:
Or maybe they should just be cautious in general and not assume that black people are more dangerous. Seeing as race is a social construct anyways. And the same goes for gender.
Them
I agree with you, but I also just don’t think it’s wrong to be more cautious around certain people. Like I totally get how that might seem bad, but if a certain type of person is much more likely to hurt you, you don’t see why you would be more cautious than average? That’s all I’m saying. And no of course black people don’t commit more murders because their skin is darker. Skin color plays no part in how someone acts. Gender is debatable though but that’s a whole other conversation😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Me:
No. I'm not more cautious around any type of person, because I'm not fucking prejudiced.
Them:
Prejudiced means it’s not based off of reason.1 in 6 women will be sexually assaulted in some sort by a man. 70% of all women have faced minor harassment in public by men. Men commit at least 90% of all violent crimes. That seems pretty reasonable to fear men more. Nearly all women are taught that way to. To be more cautious around men. I genuinely wonder if you’ll uphold your belief if/when you have any daughters
Me:
But one man is not all men. Just like one black person is not all black people. So dont judge them just based on statistics. Honestly I thought we were past the point of perceived supremacy based on crime statistics, at least on this page.
Them:
Have you ever heard the saying “Not all men, but enough men”?
And where do you draw the line of ignoring statistics?Just so you know, I brought up race to show BLM and all these other movements have their priorities messed up. I don’t think the difference between black murderers and white murderers is big enough to where you have to significantly be more cautious about one or the other, but I do when 1 in 6 women will be assaulted seriously by a man
Me:
Look, if your entire argument is that it's okay to assume that men and black people are more dangerous, then I would say you're racist and misandristic. I'm gonna stop responding.
This person is for sure really insensitive, if not outright racist and misandristic. Their entire argument was that it's okay to assume that any man or black person is inherently more dangerous than women or white/non-black people, when you think about it. Idk they're definitely not the worst person I've encountered, but they were really frustrating.
