I was watching the video "Are Education Savings Accounts the Future of School Choice?" by Reasontv until i noticed something at 1:19, the presenter said:

Texas rank among the lowest in combined SAT scores, is in the bottom quarter nationally in reading proficiency. 1 out of every 4 students fail to graduate high school, and black and hispanic students are twice as likely to leave school before getting a diploma than white students.

Boys are also more likely to leave school before getting a diploma, and the gender gap is the biggest in the black community. but the video don't say anything about that. only the racial disparity is mentionned and the gender disparity ignored.

Reason is a libertarian media, the same phenomena exist in the conservative and liberal/progressive media. Double Down News posted a video titled "Why Are So Many BAME People Dying of Coronavirus?", the video talk about the racial disparity in health. not in that video and in another the gender disparity is highlighted.

Racial and gender disparity are similar in a lot of areas of life, for example men just like black and latino are :

  • less likely to go to college.
  • live shorter and less healthy lives.
  • more likely to go to prison.
  • more likely to be homeless.

The biased media reporting lead to biased public policy and biased charity policy, there is a lot of effort to close racial gaps by government/wealthy charity but no effort is done to gender gaps.

The gender disparity is only mentioned when women and girls are lagging behind. but when men and boys are the disadvantaged group every one become blind.

Edit: Another example from "Koch Self-Interest in Criminal Justice Reform, Exposed" :

Charles and David Koch have received positive press for backing a bipartisan effort to reform American criminal justice laws, which have helped make the U.S. the world's biggest jailer and whose burdens have fallen disproportionately on people of color.

If the majority of people in prison were women they would say "whose burdens have fallen disproportionately on people of color and women" but because men are the disadvantaged they erased them from the sentence. even among people of color it's mostly MEN of color.
