I have mixed feelings on this male body positivity project. What are your thoughts?

There are a lot of issue I have with this actually. Firstly it mistakes feminizing men with liberating men. When you see body positivity campaigns for women they don't cast exclusively from the lesbian community and purposely try to portray them in the most masculine way possible. They instead conform to the femininity those women wished they possessed, just with a non confirming body type. Then people come along and try to carbon copy these campaigns and it ends up being very emasculating.

The second thing I don't like is that I feel body positivity is the wrong way to go about things anyway. You are drawing attention to their worst quality and not really redeeming it in any way. Just asserting that it is something to be celebrated. It's still concentrated on looks. But it's celebrating ugliness instead.

Lastly it promotes health issues that really don't help you at all. Heart disease is a major killer. Diabetes is far too common. Obesity is an epidemic. We can do better and it has to come from our own standards. We don't come to them arbitrarily. Undermining them because you can't live up to them is an issue. Question what doesn't work, not what you are bad at.

I am partly in favour of the body positivity concept. Like a lot of things, it has gotten too woke and is often used to actively promote and glorify unhealthiness and has become rather anti-science. Nonetheless, I agree with the concept that overly negative self image is an important mental health issue and positive representation of people with similar bodies to them and being able to feel confident in their own skin is a good thing.

What I like about this particular project is that unlike most half assed attempts to give men some lipservice in body positivity, there is a genuine variety of body types here, not just "buff", "athletic" and "chubby buff", all bodies that require a fair bit of working out, and not comparable to the body positivity women get. This one genuinely has most body types, even if they look a little airbrushed.

What I don't really like is that the author has claimed this is to give men diverse representation in body positivity, yet he got auditions exclusively from LGBTQ Facebook groups. That's not really the full diversity of men,that's just queer men. He's taken an intersectional approach, which means of course, that traditional masculinity is oppressive and not welcome, which means he is never fully inclusive. Likewise, the vast majority of the posing is clearly done in a style more reminiscent of female modelling and femininity. Once again, the average, heterosexual man, who, with the rising levels of heterosexual male sexlessness and adherence to hypergamous dating standards from women, and who is probably most desperately in need of a confidence boost and societal perception shift towards having his body and sexuality seen in a positive, attractive light, is left out in the cold.

Why all of them are in feminine position ?!!! i don't have a problem with feminine men (actually i love feminine men i'm bisexual, especially south korean *_*) but i hate this forced feminization. most men don't want to put make up, polish nail, wear dresses etc .. most men want to lift weight not dancing ballet. art/movies should represent what men want to be. yes feminine men are part of it but only a small minority.

I've read posts on trans men subreddit that a trans man was bullied by friends and get accused of having "toxic masculinity" because he refused to wear make up !! There is a difference between "it's okay to be a feminine man" and "it's only okay if you are a feminine man"

Some aspects of this are good, like the guy with the prosthesis.

But I had always thought body positivity was about not hating yourself because you’re 5’6” or because you don’t have a nine-inch penis or other things you can’t do anything about. I don’t think it should be ever be about obesity (or neglecting personal hygiene or basic grooming).

The guy with prosthetic leg looks great, no need for body positivity and the only way to promote body positivity for Fat Men is by telling fat men to lose weight because they CAN do it, its possible... just do it!

WTF is this shit lol? It seems like they are targeting anything masculine. The ancient Greek poses of men are millions times better then this woke bullshit.
