Which ones have you heard that you find especially absurd? Here are my top three, for your amusement.

Third place goes to that "female-led countries are doing much better in handling COVID" crap that has been going around (and is still being parroted). Never mind that the data show that the male-led countries, on average, have lower death rates per million population and lower death rates per number of cases. Never mind that New Zealand's COVID response was designed by a man (Michael Baker) and that the Minister of Health and Director General of Health are both men (actually, the COVID responses for Germany was also designed by a man). I guarantee that if somebody said that countries with anti-LGBT legislation have lower death rates than countries without anti-LGBT legislation (a lot of Caribbean countries, sub-Saharan African countries, and tiny island nations in Oceania, many of which have very low death rates, fall into the former category), I'm sure everyone will suddenly grow a brain and argue about how causation is not correlation.

Another particularly stupid assertion is that female athletes would be able to compete with male athletes or even outperform them consistently if only they had been encouraged to do sports and given the same opportunities. I saw this brought up a few times during the 2016 Olympics when the American women were bringing home more medals than the American men (60 medals for the women and 56 for the men; HUGE difference, I know); one dumbass on Facebook said that it should now be "you run like a boy" rather than "you run like a girl". Another dumbass insisted that the only reason why gender-segregated sports were a thing was because "men were afraid of how badly they would be beaten if women were allowed to compete with them in sports". A friend of mine also got into this argument with this person (a gender non-binary person) who insisted that segregation of sports by gender should be done away with and women and girls should just be given the same amount of encouragement to do sports to enable them to compete with boys and men. Apparently, biology and physiology is just a social construct or whatever.

But the one that takes the grand prize is that if no men showed up to work for a day, this world would thrive. This was in response to that one day that women take off in March in the United States as some sort of statement about the importance of women in the work place. A bunch of dumb Karens on Facebook insisted that if all men took a day off, the drama and macho posturing of men would not be an issue and things would actually get done. Meanwhile, they're blissfully ignorant to the fact that many of the most crucial jobs that keep things operating smoothly are done by men, like paramedics, firemen, surgeons, garbage collectors, electricians, and so on. Then if you point out to them that if all men took off from work that they had better pray nothing catastrophic happens (hell, they should even pray their heat doesn't stop working if it's winter or their air conditioning doesn't give out in the middle of summer or some plumbing emergency happens), they argue that the women who do these jobs can take over; they also conveniently forget that the women who indeed do these jobs will not be able to cope with the workload since 95% of their colleagues did not show up. For this complete lack of awareness of all the behind-the-scenes work that goes on maintaining everyone's way of life in this country, I would say this statement is the most detached from reality assertion I have heard.
