Let's not forget, at least in the US, women spend 80% of household income. How exactly that breaks down I'm not sure, but their labor is not unpaid. You could even say the opposite.

You can't just call housework unpaid labour and ignore the fact that it's for the worker's direct benefit and that the husband usually shares money with his wife. It's such a childish, asinine term.

A few comments.

It is up to a woman to choose a partner who will be suitable. If they are not happy with the division of labour then that is their choice. It’s not up to anyone to police someone’s relationship and I do not see anything actionable here.
Does this factor in hours worked by each side? It’s insane that looking after your own children is seen as a burden on the same level as a soul crushing job. It, again, is a woman’s choice to have children.
If men are to take an equal role in childcare they need to be actually treated as equals. Feminists seem remarkably unconcerned about reforming paternity laws or trying to shift the cultural idea that women are better caters.

Also without method and context this whole graph is useless.

All this way of looking at the world seeks to fragment us all into isolated units. It's a complete destruction of the family, of marriage. It's as if even in a marriage, men and women are merely selfish actors only looking out for themselves. The idea of marriage to them seems to be no more meaningful to them than two tenants agreeing to share rent together. They even taking looking after YOUR OWN CHILDREN as if it's a "job" that you should be compensated for. Raising your kids is "unpaid labour". A monetary value on raising your kids... how disgusting can you get?

Tell me, anyone, do you know a single man in a marriage who hoards his wealth to himself? Who lives a lavish lifestyle while his wife and kids can't buy anything? Very often it is women who control the household spending even if they aren't making the money anyway. In fact ask ANY workhorse man why he works so much and a common answer will rear it's head - "I do it for my family."

The family unit is just that - a UNIT. Traditionally, and still very common today, the man provides the wealth (at the cost of working longer hours at a harder job and being away from the family more), while the wife makes the home and nurtures the kids. Together, two becomes one and they make the wholesome finale that is the family. Without the wife it would fall apart. Without the husband it would fall apart.

This "unpaid labour" shit is frankly repulsive. It removes all bonding and togetherness about the family and reduces it to selfish actors merely looking out for their own interests. Like I said, the husbands wealth is the family's wealth anyway.

What's funny is a lot of the people who make these arguments are the same people who turn around and say "capitalism is making us more isolated than ever". No, it's your way of looking at the world where "family" and "marriage" mean absolutely nothing.

These figures come as no surprise to anyone who's familiar with the issues, but they're interesting and worth discussing nonetheless.

In my opinion, there is no issue with specialisation occurring within any relationship, where one partner earns for example more money and the other does more housework - as long as that agreement is consensual and free of undue external pressure.

It would be difficult but interesting to quantify and display the total effort spent supporting the relationship, including hours worked in total on jobs, chores, child-rearing, etc. by both partners in a typical heterosexual relationship. If there is a parity in effort spent, then we are seeing specialisation, but these statistics tell us that the specialisation has external influences being applied to it. Women are in nearly every case pressured (by societal expectations, by the reality of childbirth and parenting, and probably by many other factors) to be the one doing the unpaid labour. Is some portion of this inevitable? Probably. Is some portion societally enforced and unnecessary, and therefore at odds with one's ability to actualise oneself? Almost definitely. So we have work to do as a society to break down the pressures that keep women at home, and men at work.

If there is not parity - women are on average spending a significantly different amount of effort to men - then we once again have an issue that requires a societal solution, but I would need to see the data to comment further.

It is not the first time I see data like this. There usually is a variety of things that need to be checked. Like how they actually measured things. u/Oncefa2 recently made a post about that.

For example, they sometimes count women multi-tasking as more than they count men multi-tasking. They might base themselves on self reporting where men don't count going to the Park with the kids like "housework" while women do.

Of course, there is also differences in time spent working, time spent commuting, etc. Men tend to work farther from home than women. And anyone who has had to drive several hours per day to go to work and back, and then had the luck to be able to work just beside their home will tell you just how big a difference that make.

There might be other things that need to be taken into account. But as it is, I will trust such a statistic about as far as I can throw the UN building.

Usually, relationships are based off compromise.

Are they working?

Are they of the widespread mindset that is especially silly prevalent in non western societies that the men is EXPECTED to be the breadwinner by his wife and is not a man if he isn't?

Are these men who are not in the house among the millions spending the vast majority of their day at work as the sole provider for a family in which the woman expects it to be his duty as a man to sacrifice his time and health to provide for her?

Where are these men expected to find 8 hours a day to do housework when they are expected to spend 12 hours a day working?

Perhaps tell women to change their expectations of men, the expectations and actions they take as women, and go out there and work dangerous jobs for long hours instead of talking about "unpaid labour" (looking after your own house)

Finally, it's awful but expected that current wave feminism speaks of child rearing as a burden that should be remunerated. Rich, white, privileged, western women whose goal in life is to chase power, wealth, and influence are spreading a message that having and loving a family of ones own is not something that should be done on it's own merit as an endeavour of love, but a job, a chore, a career in and of itself that should be compared to job market labour. I'm not one for expecting women to be mothers. I think we need to address the idea that starting a family is a requirement for men or women, however, for those that do, suggesting it is, or comparing it to it a job is an awful thing to do.

Families make decisions centred around the best situation for children. This often involves one person working more than the other, with the other taking care of home and children more. In developing countries where a huge amount of work is dangerous, physical, and long hours, it stands to reason that men take on the vast amount of work. Feminism here seeks to make familial decisions centre around a woman's freedom to leave life on her terms at the expense of children and partner, but doesnt seek to get them to leave the soul destroying lives their husbands do

Does this sound like an odd way to phrase that the richest 22 men in the world own more than all the rest of us put together?

I'm skeptical when I think of this in my experience of the USA. Yes I grew up with gendered division of labor around the house. But it just feels like microaggressive airconditioner feminism especially during a global pandemic which is killing men at twice the rate of women.

However, I want to look into this regarding other economies in the world. The article links to this study.
