In the 335-word release, the words men, man or male do not appear at any time. Meanwhile, the word “women” appears seven times, and non-binary and non-cisgender appear twice each. (Cisgender means a person identifies with his or her sex.)

I'm reminded a bit of a program that was available in Austin for small business loans from the city.

They had a looong list of who qualified for these loans. Reading through it I realized that they were simply listing all the permutations they could think of that were not "white male."

I weirdly found that more offensive than if they'd simply been more honest with their language.

I was in STEM 20 years ago in school and I got nothing given to me for being a man(in fact 90% of exclusive scholarships were already for women or minorities). Women weren't excluded, and men were labeled as nerds or outcasts for playing on the computer. This one of the of the things about feminism that pisses me off the most.

But let's be clear here: the real purpose of the whole "women in STEM" is not to empower women. It's because corporations think that people in STEM are too expensive, so they want to greatly increase the workforce, lowering the cost of employees.

If by non-cisgender they mean to be more inclusive and accepting of trans people, I would say that’s transphobic because it means they would include trans men in the event... trans men are not a “soft” or “safe” version of cis men. They’re just men.
