This is one of my favorite articles to cite when talking about misandry in feminism, because it's by a very prominent feminist academic, not some radfem nutter on Tumblr. So, when the feminist I'm talking to goes, "well, she's just a bad feminist, that's not feminism," I go, "so I'm to trust you—some rando on the internet—to tell me what feminism is, rather than the feminist with a degree, who's published papers and runs an entire fucking gender studies department at a major university?"

Suzanna Danuta Walters is not alone and certainly not an outlier among feminist academics in these views. Sadly, this sort of misandry has become the norm in mainstream feminist circles, and I consider it one of the ways in which radical feminism has become...well, not radical.

This woman really hung herself and I find it encouraging that there has been a media covered outrage over her article rather than getting swept under the liberal rug. You have to wonder how feminists can keep a straight face when they say things like we live in a "rape culture" or that women are still somehow oppressed. Just look at television and you can see the blatantly hostile environment towards men. Have you noticed that in commercials or sitcoms the man is always portrayed as the bumbling idiot who needs his wife to come in and save the day? If a comedian like Amy Schumer does a stand up routine and bashes men she will get all kinds of cheers and be called "progressive" Of course if a man tells a woman she looks pretty today he will be demonized and insulted with all kinds of shaming language.

These women don't want equality they want superiority and they even have the nerve to demand it with a blatant attitude of entitlement. I don't know when it is going to happen but there is going to come a point where men and the all of the level headed women say "enough" . No more man bashing, no more shaming men for things like having a sex drive and no more feminizing our boys in school!

Nah, she didn't hang herself. There's been no fallout from that article for her, aside from some angry letters. Someone tried to get her fired by filing a Title IX complaint IIRC, but the university and the government refused to investigate it. She's fine. I'm sure it actually got her a lot of credit among her peers, and anyone in the academic world knew to keep their mouth shut if they valued their career.

The writer is a popular feminist and runs the gender studies department at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.

This article is currently being used as evidence in a title ix lawsuit against the university over alleged discrimination against male students.

Good on them!

This is real feminism. When feminists try to say "feminism cares about men too," it's good to know I have this to point to and say "nah. This is what feminism is about." It's also why many women who love men show absolute disgust when feminism is mentioned.

[–]Sallyboy2112 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Do not ever fall for the lie that "feminism cares about men/is good for men" argument because it is a complete lie. Feminists reactions to issues like male homelessness or the high rate of male suicide will range from callous indifference to them actually going on the attack and accusing the patriarchy of taking the attention away from them. You won't see real women who are happy and who have love in their hearts in today's feminist movement because today's feminist movement wants everyone to be as miserable as they are. There have been some very intelligent 2nd wave feminists who have called out today's radical feminists on their shit pointing out that they are not looking for equality but superiority.

This isn't an exaggeration you are making up I had a feminist professor use a talking point about how womens homelessness is up some number... no shit they make up such a small portion that any increase will be a large increase. If a number goes from 4 to 6 it is a massive 50% increase! Meanwhile men make up the vast majority especially those that are sleeping rough.

[–]Sallyboy2112 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So true!!! you can count on them to skew the data in a very dishonest way to always look like the victims. Another thing never talked about is that a lot of women physically abuse men and know they can get away with it. If that was not bad enough a guy might raise his hand to defend himself, the abusive women breaks a nail and she calls the cops and he gets arrested.

Primarily because of the Duluth Model which feminists designed and pushed. I like this write-up on the subject:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/c3513m/feminism_and_the_duluth_model/

This is especially disgusting when 70% of non reciprocal violence is initiated by women which honestly shouldn't be surprising when from what I remember domestic violence is far more common in lesbian relationships than gay ones.

What lack of feeling or understanding.

It might have been better to put the title in quotation marks or something to make clear that you're not endorsing the sentiment.

Don't think I'd post it here if that was the case.

Am I suppose to hate this article or cringe at the apparent ludicrousness?

Like both men and women are victims of and privy to gender norms, but why allow one to determine what's true gender equality over the another?

Life is a lot less stressful when you don't give two shits about what bourgeois feminists who write in a newspaper funded by Bezos thinks.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

This is mostly ragebait. But I do agree with the other commenters that it does reveal a worrying degree of misandry on the part of some prominent feminists.

[–]GingerRazz 18 points19 points20 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Out of curiosity, what makes you call it rage bait? The actual form of the department she runs is more or less in line with such sentiments, and exposing such hatred isn't just baiting rage, I mean, it will probably cause some rage, but that's only because many people either don't believe influential feminists ever think this way or are tired of people calling it a strawman when you point out such things.

[–]LeftNatTay 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What makes it rage bait in my personal opinion is that the article is almost 2 years old and it feels outta place

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't mean much by it. It's certainly not intended to diss OP, it's more directed towards the author of the article. The article is of little value except, as you say, to 'expose hatred'.

[–]GingerRazz 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

To me, exposing how deep to the core feminism has hatred has value. If feminism is ever to be reformed or stopped, the misandry powering academic and organizational feminism needs to be understood by the average person and coffee shop feminist who believes in feminism because they believe the dictionary definition that feminism IS equality.

[–]Egalitarianwhistle 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Right. We aren't talking about a basic buzzfeed writer- this is a tenured professor and a renowned university. Where are the 80 signatures from various professors condemning her hatespeech?

Oh. You're saying it's okay to hate someone based on immutable characteristics if it's a tenured feminist professor? That doesn't seem right to me.

[–]Iaboveall 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just because it’s ragebait doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

[–]24-cell 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I can’t view the article because I used up all my free views of the Washington Post (apparently). Can I get a summary?

[–]Haloisi 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'll copy the last paragraph, this article is pretty much what people talk about when they say that feminists use vitriolic language when talking about men.

So men, if you really are #WithUs and would like us to not hate you for all the millennia of woe you have produced and benefited from, start with this: Lean out so we can actually just stand up without being beaten down. Pledge to vote for feminist women only. Don’t run for office. Don’t be in charge of anything. Step away from the power. We got this. And please know that your crocodile tears won’t be wiped away by us anymore. We have every right to hate you. You have done us wrong. #BecausePatriarchy. It is long past time to play hard for Team Feminism. And win.

[–]LeftNatTay 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

All my Marxist Feminist friends shuddered at this, cuz of how bourgeois this sentiment is. It's like really fucked up.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the intellectual honesty is refreshing.

Where are those elf immortal men who instituted misogynistic policies just to benefit all men (and failed spectacularly to do so) and lived forever?
