And, as typical, the entire crowd is perfectly content to allow the woman to be as hostile and aggressive as she wants, continually escalating until the man either takes a beating or defends himself; only then when the guy finally steps up and neutralizes the issue do the white knights and everyone else decide to get up and start saying "whoa, whoa, what are you doing?", as if this couldn't be seen coming a mile away.

Every fucking time with this, and yet never do I hear anyone saying anything like "listen lady, if you don't back down he's going to have to make you back down, and that's not what you want". Deep down they all know the woman is wrong and the guy is right to defend himself, but the societal expectation that women be treated with kid's gloves prevents them from being honest.
