I'd argue that even men who manage to get their degree could end up broke and lonely

"We have mating inequality in the country," he said, adding that women with college degrees don't want to partner with men who don't hold a degree.

And the problem here is, of course, men not measuring up to standards rather than the standards themselves. If women, like most men, didn't care about stupid shit like "oH yOu mAkE LeSs tHaN mE? SoRrY iNtO tHe tRaSh yOu gO" and acted like actual humans with empathy, then we wouldn't have this "mating crisis". And also the fact that they phrase it like that:

Fewer men than women are attending college which is leading towards a "mating crisis,"

It's not a fucking "mating crisis", it's an educational crisis. If fewer men are going to college, THE PROBLEM ISN'T "WOMEN CAN'T FIND GUYS TO MARRY", the problem is "fewer men are going to college". But I'm probably expecting too much, by being treated as a person rather than some sex-hungry beast that gets an higher education simply because "muh getting dick wet" and "muh bread winner else wife won't exist". I'm getting closer and closer to just living in the woods with the wolves

the gap is causing an "existential threat to society," and that we are creating a "dangerous cohort."

You reap what you sow. Can't complain now, this is exactly what you wanted

"Men are falling behind remarkably fast"

OH OH I'M SOOOO SORRY MEN ARE FALLING BEHIND! It's almost as if you made every incentive possible for more women to get into STEM without doing the same for men to get into female-dominated fields like nursing. I am terribly sorry for falling behind in a society that does nothing but favor women, I WONDER how could I let this happen

I agree with you 100%

The article didn't say anything about that. Many women took soft sciences degrees and make very little money. Men in trades make far more money.

The article suggested that the problem was with not going to college, not money. If it was just money, men would still be doing alright because college isn't isn't only way to make good money.

I went to university and quite honestly I'd be hesitant to date someone that didn't. People who go to university are more critical thinkers and therefore a better partner for me. Perhaps women feel the same.

[–]evenmoremeancomments 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The article didn't say anything about that

I literally cited the article, here

"We have mating inequality in the country," he said, adding that women with college degrees don't want to partner with men who don't hold a degree.

I didn't write that. What I wrote was referring to idiotic standards most women hold towards their partner, like "he has to earn more than me, not less" and "he has to have a degree equal or better than mine". I know the article wasn't about money, I was talking about standards

I went to university and quite honestly I'd be hesitant to date someone that didn't.

I went to university and I wouldn't mind, since I am capable of seeing a person for more than their education grade. Plus, in my experience, "university opens the mind" and such other concepts are outdated. I've seen engineers that still struggle with installing a software on their PC. A degree in any field doesn't necessarily make someone smarter than someone with no degree

[+]EnvironmentalWar4627 -16 points-15 points-14 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Educated people are also more likely to be liberal. People who went to college are more likely to have better work habits and be more driven as well.

People who CHOOSE to go to college have certain traits that many people find desirable.

I don't think they need tk be told that's unacceptable and they can't be selective with who they date because some men can't find dates.

[–]evenmoremeancomments 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People who went to college also tend to have a superiority complex and a condescending tone towards people that didn't simply because "muh I went to college". It's not stricly higher education that gives you the "desirable" traits you mentioned, yet you seem to imply so

I don't think they need tk be told that's unacceptable and they can't be selective with who they date

I never said it was unacceptable, people can do whatever they want for all I care. But as a matter of fact now they are complaining about it and blaming men not being able to reach standards rather than them lowering their standards (which they would if their goal was finding a compatible partner rather than a one-upper)

because some men can't find dates.

Woah woah hold up. Have you read the article? Did you understand that it's actually women that can't find a date because most men don't measure up to their standards? As far as I can tell most men wouldn't care if their partner had a higher paying job or a higher education, it's women that don't date down. Hell, as far as I can tell there is no concept of "dating up/down" when it comes to men, it's just "dating". You're placing the "blame" on the wrong group of people here (if there's any blame to give at that)

[–]LettuceBeGrateful 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

People who go to university are more critical thinkers

Dude come on, I went to college too, but this is so elitist. Getting accepted to universities doesn't make us better people.

[+]EnvironmentalWar4627 -14 points-13 points-12 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No. Not at all learning in university makes you a more critical thinker. That's why trump got way more votes from non educated people. That's not a coincidence.

[–]LettuceBeGrateful 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's not a coincidence.

White women also voted mostly for Trump. Would you reject a woman for being white out of principle?

[–]conspiracynumber4 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Leftists took over the universitys more than 50 years ago. Nearly all young people going to uni are pushed into a liberal box.

[–]StudentOfTheTruth0 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

People who go to university are indoctrinated, not "critical thinkers". Critical thinking is the last thing you learn at today's universities.

[–]Gaiinahat 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with this. Gender studies and critical race theory, for example.

[–]conspiracynumber4 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd say that university graduates that I've known are far less likely to be a critical thinker. Maybe 30 years back they'd be taught how to question everything, but not now.

[–]manbro7 24 points25 points26 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Man dies, blame the man for dying and say "women most affected."

This is not normal and I saw this type of shit my entire life, it's only gotten worse. No wonder men are giving up on feminist indoctrination center colleges and opt out of slavery.

[–]aigars2 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Alone. Yes. Broke financially. Probably not. Really the opposite.

[–]Glum-One816[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes I was thinking the same.

[–]StudentOfTheTruth0 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

How come?

[–]bufedad 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Dating and marriage drain a man's finances

[–]StudentOfTheTruth0 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I totally agree with that. That's why I asked how come aigars2 thinks that men can end up lonely but not broke financially, just the opposite?

Huh?

A typical divorce leaves a man totally broke, financially, too, not just alone. I wish I could know what makes aigars2 so optimistic.

[–]bufedad 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Men who don't date or get married will end up alone... but not broke. His point is that avoiding marriage helps a man financially, not hurts them.

[–]StudentOfTheTruth0 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Got it, thanks.

[–]Frosty-Gate-8094 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

It wont cause any 'mating' crisis... Dont worry about it..

It will only cause a 'marriage' crisis.. An anachronism which has outlived its utility anyways.

[–]WornBlueCarpet 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It wont cause any 'mating' crisis... Dont worry about it..

Exactly. Women are not showing any restraints on having casual sex, hookups and FWB's in their 20's. So getting nocked up by a 6 ft hot guy shouldn't be a problem.

The actual problem they are complaining about is getting nocked up by 6 ft hot guy who makes $100k+ AND who will stick around to help raise and finance the child. But getting nocked up by some random guy who didn't even tell you his real name makes the last part somewhat harder.

And let me get this straight:

Women are free individuals. They have the right to hook up with as many random men as they like. They are free to do as they wish.

But so are men.

Some men won't care at all, knowing that his wife was railed by the whole dorm. But others will. And just like women who have the right and freedom to have any dating preferences, so do men. At least in theory.

[–]gregg_dark 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It's a crisis for women in that women never marry down. Women will only marry up. Most want a man with 150% of their income to marry. ( some women will accept 120%) Ergo less men in college means less potential husbands. But not a crisis for men who will enjoy higher savings due to not having a wife waste it all on tampons and gifts for Chad.

[–]Frosty-Gate-8094 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That is not the reason it's a crisis for women...

The reason they are worried is because, the men who aren't married will become less productive and pay less taxes (as they have less dependents)...
In the long run it will weaken the economy and undermine the welfare state.

That will be the true crisis for women and politicians (who survive on taxes)... That is what they are really worried about. Everything else is sugarcoating and sweet talks.

[–]gregg_dark 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What? The welfare state is the path to a super boom sustainable society! Who told you redistribution of wealth doesn't work? The guys with the wealth? Stop listening to millionaires paid by billionaires to tell you those lies. Instead Google gush up economics. Unlike failed every time trickle down, gush up is proven to work.

[–]Frosty-Gate-8094 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Welfare state cannot work forever...

The main reason is that you need someone to pay excess taxes which then can be redistributed to people who cannot pay taxes, or cant earn...

The population in the latter category includes older people, sick or disabled and children..

Nobody has issue with paying for old and sick..
But what about kids?

Kids are expected to be taken care of by their parents..

In a society where a significant percentage of men are unmarried and childless, the birth rates will fall. Which decreases future taxpayers.
Its a vicious cycle..

Welfare state can work in a country where overwhelming majority of men are married and/or have kids...

Women aren't stupid.. If there aren't many eligible men, they will simply postpone or give up motherhood..

Once the cycle is in full-swing, it would be impossible to stop it..

Welfare state isnt the problem.. Society's demonization of men is the problem..
They are cutting the branch they are standing on.. Sooner or later, something will give-in

[–]otterlyclueless 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think they were being sarcastic

[–]aigars2 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This. Unless laws are changed for actual equality by not making a man an ATM machine and a woman a soul parent.

[–]YesItsAThrowawayDa 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don’t agree that it will be a “mating crisis.” In fact the only real crisis to come from this will probably be an even further increase in male depression, suicide, and drug abuse.

It’s not like these women are devoting themselves to celibacy. Instead it will just be a very small group of men getting to mate with a pretty large group of women. If you’ve been paying attention this should already sound familiar.

[–]Pannecookers5 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's a very easy solution to the situation that doesn't involve men doing anything, have women chase men and date down. Back to reality though, it's not men who aren't attached are dangerous. It's men who compete for partners and can't do in a legal/traditional manner that are more likely to be involved in crime. If those men who aren't attached, become herbivore men like in Japan they don't do anything illegal

[–]AgincourtSalute 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

“Men not in education : women most affected”

[–]Ok_Morning6374 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't know why I'm still amazed at journalists' inability to discuss men's issues without saying that the men experiencing this issue are a threat to society or without saying how this men's issue is actually a bigger issue for women. This is fucking exhausting.

[–]bufedad 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"We have mating inequality in the country," he said, adding that women with college degrees don't want to partner with men who don't hold a degree.

We've had mating inequality in this country since it's inception.

Men have always dated/mated/married women who were lower earning and lower educated. Men carried the family as the breadwinner/primary earner.

If women have to endure that for awhile, I'm ok with that. They can enjoy some of that male privilege.

Takeway: If you treat people unequally, the result will be inequality.

[–]Rockbottom503 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The phrasing always bothers me. Instead of it being a case of women setting the bar to high for themselves in a realistic world, it becomes a case of men just aren't doing well enough.

[–]tiredfromlife2019 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because society and people demand things from men like becoming better as per whatever standard they have.

No such demand is ever made of women unless said society is a patriarchy but even in such a society, things are still demanded of men.

[–]B1G_Fan 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wonder if these women, who are overwhelmingly going to college to get worthless degrees, will lose their jobs when businesses have to fire their HR departments in order to free up money to hire employees that are actually productive…

Sure, there are some women who are just as productive as men, but men still dominate the hard majors that make it easy to get job after college

Of course, the companies could drive themselves into the ground by choosing hire and retain dead weight, at which point the worthless Karens will lose their jobs anyway…

Hell yeah, there’s going to be a mating crisis…

It’s going to happen when these women with worthless degrees can’t find a job and can’t find a beta male willing to finance their retirement, in part because men and boys are noping the fuck out of working

[–]TheBuelna 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The consequences of raising young men in a society that does nothing but remind men that they shouldn’t live life by their principles and perceived responsibilities, but by the privileges and dogmatism forced towards them. Resulting in weaker and irresponsible men that don’t possess the ability to create or support a family. All western academia does is indoctrinate you with the wisdom of the crowd.

One of the fallbacks of a matured society is that once egalitarian suppositions are normalized, individuality becomes suppressed through belligerent politics.

[–]reddut_gang 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It doesn't matter. Do you think boys want a "gender studies man-hating degree"? There are so many useless college courses that are a complete waste of money. I think this is a blessing in disguise. I think this is just a sign of the times and boys, by being discriminated against, might inadvertently end up in a better spot. Of course, this does not mean I am in support of the discrimination, but it is a silver lining.
