Hi guys! So I'm a female MRA, and where I live (Kenya) female circumcision is not widely practiced anymore, and despised all over Kenya, except maybe in very rural communities. According to UNICEF data, only 3% of girls under 15 have undergone FGM (still 3% too high)

However, male circumcision is very widely practiced and the percent of men circumcised has actually increased since early 2000s, to around 91% now.

My boyfriend, my boyfriend's brother, and my male best friends are all part of the Kikuyu tribe in Kenya, and they told me they view circumcision as important not harmful.

In Kikuyu culture, a boy becomes a man when he is circumcised. He is not a man and thus an uncircumcised man is seen as a boy and endures humiliation, sometimes in a community he is not permitted to get married or have children. There is a word, Kihii/Kahii which is a derogatory term for uncircumcised male.

So why do people still think male circumcision is healthy? or not harmful? I have no problem with men doing it voluntarily but I'm so confused as to why more men don't see it as wrong. Keep in mind in Kenya boys get circumcised at 14, not as babies, so they feel pain. Some do it without anesthesia.

Whenever I bring this up the local men tell me MGM is okay and it doesn't mean anything bad is happening to men. And I don't know what to think anymore.
