There is a thread currently on TwoX with a similar thread title and I'm an shocked - SHOCKED! - that women are so confused about why men (and, more specifically, men's rights activists) bring this up. Apparently they think it is to vilify women (because if they can find a way to make themselves the victim, they're going to do it).
Do they honestly not realize that men don't file for divorce because men have very little to gain from divorce??? That when men mention this statistic, it isn't about claiming that women are bad people, but rather than the divorce laws are so skewed (both in their form and their enforcement) that they keep men in bad marriages? That the exact same laws that were put into place to give dependent spouses the opportunity to leave bad marriages, are now forcing supporting spouses to stay in bad marriages?
They seem to think that men don't initiate divorces for emotional reasons. That they like having a maid, or someone to plan family outings. That men just want to cheat, but they're happy to cheat, but want to "have their cake and eat it too" and stay married.
Do they not understand that dependent women file for divorce because they are actually able to alleviate themselves of their responsibilities to the relationship while still be able to enjoy the financial rewards of the relationship? That dependent women actually benefit from divorce?
Supporting men, on the other hand, really have nothing to gain from divorce. Whatever the dependent wife is providing, is going to go away. Even if it is minimal, it is certainly helpful to have a co-parent, or to have someone help with cooking and cleaning. And when divorce happens, the supporting husband loses that help. But his financial responsibility to his wife continues - in some cases for the rest of his life. So when you have a marriage where one spouse provides financially, and the other spouse contributes to maintaining the household, the financial provider only loses in divorce, and gains nothing.

Women can, it’s just that many don’t. That’s why the majority of divorces are initiated by women

If one group leaves more, they are less loyal by definition of what it means to be “loyal”. What I’m saying are just facts based on divorce statistics

When you go into a marriage, you should already be loyal…

What nonsense? Again, I’m speaking based on common sense and statistics
