Spineless people-pleasing can literally cost lives—a case study

I saw this post today on a popular sub (you can probably guess which one), and as an animal lover and FDSer, I was horrified. We often talk on FDS and in the handbook about the importance of boundaries. This is a perfect example of how boundaries, and living with integrity instead of compromising to get along, protects not only you but the people (and animals) around you.

A high-value woman stands strong in her convictions, so she is free of guilt and acquires natural confidence in herself. She knows she will do what she believes to be right. Other people feel comfortable around her because they know she is trustworthy.

In contrast, a woman who is still trying to be picked will betray herself and everyone around her. Even LVM and other pickmeishas tend to feel anxious around this woman.

I’m not saying this just to damn OOP, who I do feel bad for, but she needs to take this experience as the impetus to change, or something like this WILL happen to her again.

ETA as I said in the captions, obviously the main people at fault are the BF and his father, but because OP didn’t stand up for what she thought was right, she became a party to this too.

This made me so angry and sad. I hate blaming women for the faults of stupid ass men but she could have gotten that dog into a crate and took it to a vet or shelter and those deaths could have been prevented and the cruelty of leaving a dog out chained would have stopped.

UGH, I LOATHE "country people" like this. I've met some as a kid, like this family whose beautiful black Lab had a very crooked hind leg and casually admitted she had been run over as a puppy and they never took her to a vet. I can't imagine how much painful arthritis she had. As a teen and adult I've had to call in multiple animal cruelty reports for various situations. The "country people" who do this stuff are invariably terrible at farming and unable to make a profit. Their lack of empathy seems integrally connected to their stupidity.

For being a pickme she became an accomplice to the death of this poor puppy. Girl, you could save her just taking her with you, these dumb ass and 0 empathy men just let her die

I hate this mentality. It’s an old-time mentality, that lacks empathy. My family is from Eastern Europe and many did/still lump domesticated animals into the livestock category, which they are not, they are pets. We don’t eat dogs and cats and they were bred to be close to humans, in the most literal sense. My uncle is back In Europe (he has mental issues and we have no relationship to him) and last I heard, he got a dog, kept it outside the whole time, and it died from cold exposure.

I used to bring home animals and they wouldn’t be allowed in the house, here in the US. Maybe cats would be allowed here and there but not for long periods of times. They would stay in the garage and/or outside. I hated it and would always sneak them in when my parents weren’t home. It took a while, but eventually during my teens, my parents changed their view and all pets stay indoors or go outside as they please. It took me and my siblings showing and explaining to my parents that pets need to be close to people. If they are not, you can’t complain that they’re untrained or dirty. They are companions and you don’t leave companions outside all day and night. My parents never abused animals or anything, and they both love animals, especially my mom - she’s a sort of animal activist. It’s just how they were raised. But the cycle has to be broken at some point.

I wish this woman would have taken the dogs herself to the vet. I’m sure her bf and his dad would have been angry but who cares. Think about the kind of people that get mad at you for taking an annual to the dr and think if you want to be with them.
