These feminist junk studies have been debunked many times. Differences were found to small and non-significant, or related to female surgeons refusing to attempt surgery on high risk patients.

Any differences in survival could be appropriately atributed to factors other than sex.

What this article left out is that surgeons who perform higher risk surgeries tend to be make. Higher risk surgeries have overall higher fatality and complication rates.

Funny how they conveniently omitted this documented relevant point.

I remember some publicized study from years ago-- perhaps well over 2 decades ago-- which said that patients would interrupt the speaking of female doctors more often than male doctors. This was naturally interpreted as "patients don't respect female doctors!!!!"

A follow-up study, not as well publicized, looked at why and said that the major factor was that people were more comfortable asking questions to female doctors. Which actually sounds rather positive.

It didn't get as much attention as the previous study, but naturally it got interpreted that women were simply better doctors.

The pattern of distorted interpretation about these kinds of things is so consistent over time, it almost takes effort to not see it.

the male surgeons generally perform all the most difficult and dangerous surgeries.

Yes, if they were the slightest bit honest they'd control for that.

If any woman wants to stay on the waiting list longer until a female surgeon is available then they should have this right.

Any time you "professionalize" any field, men end up doing the hardest and riskiest functions of that field, ex: the high risk surgery case that no one else is willing to do.

Women have a well-known tendency of being risk averse.

And I bet male surgeons push themselves to perform as many surgeries as humanly possible so they can advance their careers and earn more money, so they end up operating when they're tired, doing double-shifts, and whatnot.

On one level I guess if you're having surgery, having a female surgeon is a good sign that your case is a slam dunk.

But on another level, I'm guessing if you have low odds of survival, you won't get a female surgeon, they just won't risk operating on you.
