How is this related to mens rights?

[–]themolestedsliver 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not however a lot of conservatives like spamming their shit here.

[+]TheAndredal[S] -18 points-17 points-16 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Protecting minors from mutilation is not a male issue???

[–]toooldforthisnonsens 26 points27 points28 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No, it's a gender neutral issue.

[+]TheAndredal[S] -22 points-21 points-20 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So boys arent Included in this? You still haven't answered me

[–]KenshiBoy 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Female to male trans people exist. It's gender neutral.

[–]pbj_sammichez 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Surgery is not mutilation. Look, the TERFs are a thing. Let's not make trans-exclusive men's rights activists a "thing". TEMRA doesn't really roll off the tongue, anyway.

Children don't just get to walk in and request a sex-change. This whole issue is a straw man that sounds like more conservative nonsense to me. When they ban circumcision, wake me up. Until then, garbage like this is just a pissing contest between echo-chamber conservatives and the feminist establishment.

But seriously, posting a breitbart article for a source? Just go back to conservative echo-chamber you came from. You don't care about men's rights as a whole - you care about enforcing your backwards religious view on others. People like you care about your sense of moral superiority more than anything.

[–]TheAndredal[S] -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It literally is mutilation... I am not a terf... You haven't even read the article...

[–]toooldforthisnonsens -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't think literally means what you think it means.

[–]TheAndredal[S] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Removing genitals from minors is absolutely horrible. Putting hormones into children is horrible. What the hell is wrong with you for defending this?!

[–]toooldforthisnonsens -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nobody is defending anything. Stop strawmaning me.

[–]manicraccoon 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Minors are not legally or otherwise allowed to get Gender Affirmative Surgeries. Children are not well informed to understand the gravity of the decision. Also unlike natural body parts, the parts made through GRS do not grow with age. Making that a useless idea anyway.

[–]Cameron4365 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]GodBirb 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Yeah it’s tough. Trans people have a very hard time transitioning after adulthood and all the effects of puberty, but you’re right that minors aren’t going to make the best informed decisions.

I think they need to do studies on the minors that want to transition, and whether they, upon adulthood, would still agree with their previous decision (without actually transitioning them of course). If it’s over 90-95% the same, it could be argued that on average you’d be improving their quality of life with an earlier transition.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nice points

[–]UnfurtletDawn 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There was a study on like kids below age 10

80% of them change their mind.

So let's say a boy at age 5 starts to think he is a girl and has like 80% change he will change his mind.

[–]GodBirb 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That young is just excessive. Minors include anyone up to 18, and I was referring to people 14/15+ (though I suppose should have specified).

Do you have a link to the study so I can read it for myself anyways though?

[–]UnfurtletDawn 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

https://www.transgendertrend.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Steensma-2013_desistance-rates.pdf

This one was with a bit older kids.

The issue on these studies is low number of trans that you can follow well. You would need bigger sample and have part that transition only socially, then those that took hormone blockers, then sex change hormones....

[–]zklpr 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

This isn’t related to men’s rights at all.

[–]TheAndredal[S] -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So boys being put on puberty blockers isn't mens rights related...?

[–]zklpr 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They’re not being forced to go on blockers, and most who do go on blockers are much older than you think, in the 16-18 category.

And no, it’s not men’s rights related. This would be child’s rights/LGBTQ rights related. It’s not just boys affected, you’re forgetting about FTM people too.

[–]TheAndredal[S] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Children as low as 12 are on them... Most of these "trans children" aren't trans. Just by statistics. Why can't you wait until the boy is an adult and make that choice. I have no problem with trans people. But why should a minor make such bug decision before being developed?

[–]TAPriceCTR 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Too young to consent to sex is absolutely too young to consent to sex change. The consequences of sex that we "must" protect children from regardless of their own personal desires are far less significant than the consequences of sex change, and even less significant than just puberty blockers.

[–]HLTVBestestMens 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is just transphobic you retard

[–]TheAndredal[S] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How?

[–]gime20 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nothing wrong with telling kids no, maybe your parents should have told you that more

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Very glad this is criminalized

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A child being maimed by a surgery that they might finally decide is not what they truly want is criminal I say that because young teens who went that path ended up more than 45% changing their minds but having to live with the unwanted surgery and a significant portion of those commit suicide because of having had that surgery.

[–]pacsatonifil 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I support this.

[–]Sailbad_the_Sinner30 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (32 children) | Copy Link

Just as a point of information: how many minors have undergone sex change surgeries in Alabama, exactly? Seems to me it should be pretty easy to find out if this is such a big problem.

[–]Jesus_marley 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Why wait for your cancer to hit stage 4 if you can fix it before that?

[–]Sailbad_the_Sinner30 -5 points-4 points-3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The more appropriate metaphor would be this: why are you prescribing radical chemotherapy to a patient that doesn’t even have cancer?

[–]Jesus_marley 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I was going for "it doesn't need to be a big problem in the state for the state to take measures against it before it becomes a bigger problem".

[–]Sailbad_the_Sinner30 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Right. And this is coming from the same political party and point on the political spectrum that constantly complains about mask mandates and “government overreach”?

Please.

Creating laws for problems that don’t exist and which may have horrible side effects is the very definition of “government overreach” and authoritarianism.

[–]orcwordlaugh1 points 4 years ago [recovered] (11 children) | Copy Link

Does it have to be a "big" problem to do something about it? One is too many.

[–]Sailbad_the_Sinner30 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Has there even been one?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

If there are zero cases, then the law doesn't hurt anybody either.

[–]Sailbad_the_Sinner30 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

The law’s side effects can hurt people. For example, hormone blockers have a ton of uses in children for many different reasons. If the law is making unnecessary hoops to jump through, it’s not harmless.

Even so, here’s my question: how do y’all justify a state congress wasting time on shit like this?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

For other medical uses of puberty blockers, the same rules apply that we use for any kind of medication with potential side effects.

[–]Sailbad_the_Sinner30 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Nope. This law blocks them for all kids, period.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Not true. Read the bill.

Section 4. (a) Except as provided in subsection (b), no person shall engage in or cause any of the following practices to be performed upon a minor if the practice is performed for the purpose of attempting to alter the appearance of or affirm the minor's perception of his or her gender or sex

[–]Sailbad_the_Sinner30 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Where can one find the bill, entire?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Follow the link, and then click on "passed" in the first line.

[–]TheAndredal[S] -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

It is hormone blockers...

[–]Sailbad_the_Sinner30 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Hormone blockers and sex change surgeries are two entirely different things. I repeat my question: how many minors have had sex change surgeries in Alabama?

[–]TheAndredal[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

You didn't read the article at all...

"The Republican-dominated Alabama State Legislature passed a child-protection bill on Thursday that would criminalize performing sex change surgeries and prescribing puberty blockers or hormone therapies for minors."

[–]Sailbad_the_Sinner30 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

So there’s your problem. You know who routinely gets prescribed hormone blockers? Girls with menstrual difficulties. That’s going to be a much larger group that’s negatively affected by this law than any putative trans kids. And for what, exactly? What social good comes from banning hormone blockers?

[–]TheAndredal[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

That's a false equivalence... Minors can not consent! You dont change a body of a minor. By your logic they should be allowed to smoke, drink and be able to get tattoos...

[–]Sailbad_the_Sinner30 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

You can most certainly change the body of a minor and parents do it all the time. Are you seriously saying minors should be prevented from having any kind of reconstructive surgery, for example?

[–]TheAndredal[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Shifting the goalposts... That is completely different...

[–]Sailbad_the_Sinner30 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Not at all. Reacting exactly to what you said.

So in your view, when are parents allowed to intervene in their children’s body and development?

[–]TheAndredal[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Not to transition a child under 18 and putting hormones into them that hinders their natural development...

[–]PaulfussKrile 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Based Alabama.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

That's actually good news. It's honestly scary that people are trying to prove that the Hungarian PM was right about people in the west trying to push gender change on minors. They fucking are trying to do it, that's a huge nope. Nobody should be allowed to alter the body of a child that's unable to have a fully informed consent on the matter.

[–]TitanicPat 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Too young to get a tattoo? Too young to get a sex change.

[–]BionicalPumpkin 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I dunno how this is related to mens right. I get that male children would probably be the most targeted by those activists because of the ploriferation of the insane idea that "all men are bad" and "all men should die" and bs of the sort but still... to be honest even putting that into consideration it still looks more like a gender issue rather than mens right issue.

[–]TheAndredal[S] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But you're just proving my point

[–]decs00046 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I read this as if it meant a guy from Alabama, called Bill, wanted to criminalise sex change surgeries for minors

[–]MrRonchito 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Good

[–]Normal-Yogurtcloset5 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Children aren’t considered mature enough to drive, vote, consume alcohol, cigarettes or legal cannabis…but, some people think they’re mature enough to decide on a surgical sex change. Make that make sense.

[–]manicraccoon 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nobody is giving gender reassignment surgeries to minors. The earliest you can get is 16, if you are considered an adult at 16 for that state/country. As I've mentioned in a separate comment, getting GRS doesn't make sense anyway as these body parts don't grow like a normal body part along with a growing kid. SO the bill is targeting something that isn't even a problem.

[–]pbj_sammichez 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The only issue I take with sex changes is that I'm not convinced the science was well-performed and unbiased in determining that sex changes are GRASE (medical industry term for "Generally Recognised As Safe & Effective"). Specifically, the effective part.

Dysphoria is the main issue that reassignment is supposed to tackle. It's the opposite of euphoria, and it's an overwhelming negative reaction to seeing one's own body. I have done some light research for peer-reviewed studies on this item and it seems like the literature was lacking. I studied physics in college, not psychology, so it's not my area of expertise, but it seems like a short road leads us to reassignment.

It seems like there were 2 things that were tried before reassignment: talk-therapy and hormone therapy. Apparently those were not sufficiently effective. I haven't seen any other common treatment options that were used, but I might just be missing some stuff. Regardless, after seeing the documentary Hjernavask I have my doubts as to the scientific basis behind reassignment, and im not confident in the ethical considerations in the process that was used in those studies. Medical practice should NOT be "informed" by gender studies professors and the populist social movements of the time.

[–]AdAcademic4290 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

One problem with this is that if blockers cannot be prescribed for genuine trans minors, they face a lot more surgery later on if they choose to go down the surgical route.

Eg f to m, breast removal, m to f, Adams apple shaving down. Blockers are much lower risk than having further operations.

[–]TheAndredal[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Genuine trans minors?! How about you wait u til they're adults?!
