(Note: This is not meant to accuse all Christians/feminists of behaving this way. Both of these terms are used to refer to such a wide number of individuals that they are dangerously close to losing meaning (or perhaps, already have…). There are plenty of feminists/Christians who I agree with on near everything, and this is only meant to refer to Christians/Feminists who have actually done the things described. )

Although there is, of course, a wide degree of difference between how fundie feminism and Fundie Christianity views certain topics, such as women, I believe that both of these systems actually seem to be operating using the exact same, toxic mechanisms.

Breaking of self-worth - under Christianity, Man is a fallen being, making him susceptible to demonic influence. Worst of all of the influences is pride: that’s how Satan fell (in Milton’s account anyway). Fundamentalist Christianity attempts to strip you of your “pride”, because then it can strip you of “self-worth”. And once you no longer have self-worth,once you are ashamed and guilty, the ideology can come in and ”cure” you.

Feminism teaches a similar belief. All men are sexists, and if one of them has the gall to argue against feminism, that’s their subconscious sexism showing. A great deal of feminism is spent undermining male self-worth: “you didn’t come up with your thoughts by yourself- they were out there by the patriarchy. You have no opinions of your own.” A particular ‘favourite’ of mine is an article entitled “Yes, women are superior to men, because patriarchy has forced us to be”. The reason I like this headline so much is that they’re admitting that they’re trying to tear men down, to make them feel guilt and shame, and only feminism can come in and cure them.

Sanctification- this is a particularly interesting one. When Christians found Pagan temples, they would knock them down and build Churches over them. This would be done as a deliberate attempt to claim “mastery” over the land that they razed and ruined.

We see this in feminism, albeit in a far more insidious and less material way. Ever wonder why feminism seems intent on taking over traditionally-male protagonist stories, with almost no desire to create any of their own? “Star Wars”, “Ghostbusters”, “Lord of the Rings” “Doctor Who”…all of them, very suddenly, have had their protagonists replaced with (badly-written) female stand-ins. In the same way that Christianity deliberately ruined Pagan temples then places their Churches in victory, feminism is doing the exact same trick.
