Twitter is set up to encouraged divisiveness and bullying.

When you only have 280 characters to say something, it's much easier to say "you're an idiot" than it is to make a respectful and thought out argument.

Their algorithm also gives you material that they think will upset you to encourage exactly that type of engagement on the platform. So the culture is all about insulting people and making witty comebacks.

Feminists love it because that's all they really want to do. They don't care about facts and logic they just want to yell at everyone. And that has more to do with the culture on the site and the platform itself, not censorship.

Somewhat, don't particularly like Musk, he's a bit of a scam artist. That said he seems to like freedom of speech as long as it's not about his businesses, so cautiously optimistic that he'll improve the general lack of freedom on there.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The problem with twitter is not just the owners. The people who have their fingers on the buttons (i.e. who execute the policies) will remain the same, so that won't change magically by itself.

What fascinates me the most, is making the platform open-source.

Transparency reveals more bias, enough highlighted bias embarrasses platforms into change.

Part of me thinks he's planning to buy it to tear it apart bit by bit. One of the supporting factors for this assumption is that there are a few people tracking his whereabouts via his personal jet with Twitter bots.

I deleted my about twitter account 2 years ago.

I just re-signed up this morning, just in case, it actually move in a free direction.

Maybe he will buy Reddit next.

Most people like free speech until it's about them. This guy tried to shut down the Twitter account that tracked his jet eventhough all of it is public data and at our disposal.

Nah. It's always good to have competition and I admit a wee bit of schadenfreude at the rabid feminists and extreme left no longer having their echo chamber under their complete control but I doubt anything significant will change.

Found a lot more actual free speech and interaction on Gab than I ever found on Facebook, and Twitter I never got into to begin with, don't plan to start now.

Yeah you got the nuts and the Nazis but that's what free speech means...you have to take the good with the bad. Discernment is key.

But then I used to love the 90s Internet with Usenet flame wars and YTMND.com insanity so I loved the anarchistic Internet as it was then. People have entirely too thin a skin these days, and the Internet is way too sanitized for the benefit of those who can't hold their own in a fight.

Most of the feminist BS wouldn't last 5 minutes were it exposed to uncensored, unmoderated feedback and challenge, and they know it. That's why they congregate in places like Reddit, Twitter, etc where moderation is high and they can act with impunity due to their privileged status, while men get banned for daring to fight back.

Ah yes because billionaires are so famous for loving free speech and people who question them. No one was this excited about Bezos buying WashPo, even though it could have the same ramifications, because Musk has created almost celebrity status/worshipping oh him that other billionaires haven't. He does not care about free speech, only making money.
